Yeah I agree, he would still make a solid assistant coach somewhere. Never rated him as a head coach going back to his time at the Eels and he lucked out a bit having a reputation off a WC Win with NZ.

Still laugh at the time Buzz had him as his #2 on coaching rankings when he started at the Eels based off that WC win. Deliberately biased and clickbait I know but still...

Horrible timing but ultimately the right decision. If they can get the right coach no one will give a **** in a year. Like Browny here, when he got sacked the club & admin were being bagged mercilessly for months, now that O'Brien stepped in & we're winning, suddenly no ones questions the decision anymore. It's just horrible timing for the Warriors unfortunately, they may well go into a downward spiral considering the situation they're in.

No joke back in the blog with buzz days on the telecrap. Then twitter became popular and he cops the abuse on that now

but those lists are to take the **** and get the most discussion with the usual bias in them

TPJ under Obrien could be a whole different story .

Instead of spending 4 games on the sideline he might only spend 3 under Obi.

Stupid footy player and so overrated.

Agreed. Big, athletic backrower with ball-playing abilities. Still feel he has a lot of unlocked potential. Whether Obi or another coach could get that out of him though, I'm not so sure.

Man, Pangai is looking worse every week for the Broncos, but to be fair so is the rest of the team.

I love how Brown gets so much credit for recruiting when really it was Mooney pulling all the strings, Brown said on multiple occasions moons was relentless fixing the cap and recruiting.

All the way back to under 16s you'd walk away from games we'd won by 20 and think we could have won by 50 if Pangai would run more than 4 times a game. He has always had unlimited potential, and I loved to watch the Canberra lower grade coaches tearing their hair out trying to get him to have a go.
He is as big a challenge for a coach as Aku Uate was.

A bit like some of the earlier comments....I've come to think of TPJ as a bit of a mental midget - he might still have a flurry of good games where he puts in and demonstrates the potential he has but he's like Leilua - he doesn't have the mental fortitude and self discipline to stick at it and realise his potential over a sustained career to get him anywhere near elite player status IMHO

Interesting interview with Brown on "over the black dot" on NITV today. He talks up Ponga, saying he's half the player he will be in 50 to 70 more games, but his interesting take on us now having a competitive squad is that we couldn't have signed a coach as good as O'Brien without having the squad we have.
It reminds me of the old joke about the manager of an English soccer club that was promoted to the top grade making a speech to his players and thanking them for playing so well to get them promoted that he could now replace them with better players.
