A tear of joy nearly fell before I even opened the thread, I'd have no problem whatsoever as a fan if Mullo re-signed until 2018. He's only 26 now and he's clearly getting better with age and experience, this year he's become one of the best halves in the comp and I wouldn't think it's just a patch of form like it was with someone like Soward, he's been building towards this and I think he's finally got to the point where he's reaching his potential and it's only uphill from here. The consistency he's shown throughout the entire season and how he's performed as captain is enough for me to believe he's going to be a massive deal over the next few years and I'd have the upmost confidence in him leading us into a grand final or even taking out a premiership, he's got it all.
I hope it all does happen over the off-season so he only has to worry about continuing to improve next year and beyond.
he has improved out of sight this year and i'd love to have him stay here long term. i can't see him leaving the club
Jarrod has excelled this year and steered the team around well...
This has been his best season yet for the Knights...
We would be lost without him..
Whatever it takes to make him a Knight for Life... He is worth every cent
While he is going great this year, I'm not sure it is worth giving any player in the comp a 5 year contract. Far to often you see a player not perform near his best when on a contract that long.
I think it meant another 4 years since he's still contracted next year. With Mullen though I don't think he'd be the type of player to just take the money and be content, he's a proud local who'll be captain for probably the rest of his career and he'll want to do anything and everything to get the Knights up there.
There's always that risk of a player under-performing after signing a big contract but you just have to look at guys like Cronk, Sutton, Carney etc who have recently signed career-finishing contracts and are still giving it their all and killing it, there's some players that know it's not all about the money and assurance and Mullo imo is one of those players. He'll probably get alot of confidence out of it actually.
He will never leave us!
Great News! Will be our captain for the next 10 years and has been our best player by far this year.
I think the Bennett factor in Mullen's 2013 is given too much credit. He's always been a good player but often paid the penalty for playing with injuries. He's obviously a very tough bloke. Another thing is how do we know what effect the "rumors" doing the rounds during the Wicks scandal had on him. Every one around town from a little old Lady at McDonalds to the garbo wanted to tell you "he's gone". Obviously unsubstantiated as his name was never mentioned. His defense has improved and so has consistency but I believe largely to do with the reasons I mentioned. I really can't picture him in another jumper.
Fantastic news! Glad to see the brass is sorting out the priority signings nice and early
top 3 half in the comp good news
So well deserved, he is the backbone of our team and has been for years.
Not many five year deals I can remember. Campo at the raiders signed one then sat out two and a half years with knee reco's.
Wonder what we'll be paying him.
Injury is the only worry. Our long contract for Gidley hasn't worked out well ... Mullen is a lot less injury prone, but in five years, who knows?
I'd be happier with four.
Good stuff our first step for the post bennett era.
True, it's a big positive from that viewpoint for sure, if it happens.
I'm happy with this. No offence to Tyrone but it would be great if we gave him an awesome halfback to play with. Awesome halfbacks seem to be a rarity these days.
Michael Dobson is coming here next season.
I think tyrone is going fine, can you guys not remember how much stick Mullen copped for a few years? I think he was still copping it last season?
5 years doesn't benefit us or the player.
A contract means nothing these days anyway.
I agree, Roberts keeps improving almost every week.
