Wests Tigers forward Michael Chee-Kam is to face court on a charge of assaulting an Uber driver at Bondi Beach.

The 26-year-old Samoa international was one of two men who are alleged to have punched a ride-share driver through his window during a night out on the weekend.

"About 10.30pm on Sunday 30 December 2018, a 26-year-old man was driving north on Campbell Parade when he was allegedly assaulted by two men who were on the road," a NSW Police statement said.

"The two men, aged 18 and 26, allegedly punched the man repeatedly through the open driver’s window.

"Passing police were flagged down and a short time later a taxi containing the two men was stopped.

"The men were arrested and both served with a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

"They are expected to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 5 February 2019."

The NRL has been informed of the claims against Chee-Kam, who has made 54 top-grade appearances for the Tigers and Manly since his debut in 2014.

"The integrity unit is aware of the matter but as there are charges involved it wouldn't be appropriate to comment further," an NRL spokesman said.
