Koori Knockout - Newcastle Yowies

Yowies men, coached by Ron Griffiths, is playing semi-final in NITV now.
It will be a big day for the Yowies. Their women's teams are in under 17s and open age grandfinals, and I think they might also be in the under 15s as well.

Matt McEwen just scored for the Yowies and Jermaine McEwen, Heath Gibbs, Kiah Cooper, Brad Tighe are some of the current and former Knights.

The womens team has Leah Ollerton, Caitlan Johnston and her sister, Caitlan Moran, Evah McEwen is in the squad but didn't play last game, the Darcy sisters etc.

Yowies men have won their semi final 46-0
They played a side that got through a soft side of the draw, while the Yowies came through the tough side.
Ron Griffiths used the game to rest a lot of his best and use his depth.
The other semi will be a much harder game, so the Grandfinal at 3.30 should see a pretty fresh Yowies side come up against a side who have only had a 4 hour break from a tough semi.

Bourke Warriors led by Luke Walsh are the opposition for Newcastle Yowies in the GF of the mens.
To be honest, Bourke had a great win over defending premiers Walgett and should start favourites, but only a 3 hour break for them after a very hard game.

Halftime in the first GF for the day.
Newcastle Yowies up 14 - 0 against a lismore based side in the under 17 girls. Plenty of names from the Knights Lisa Fiaola side playing. Ella Tighe - Brad Tighe's daughter - scored a good try.

Newcastle Yowies won 20 - 0 in under 17s girls - several more GF's to go today

Not on TV - Yowies won under 15s girls as well.

Under 15 girls & under 17 girls grand final results

Newcastle Yowies defeat Redfern All blacks 18-4
Newcastle Yowies defeat Bundjalum Sistas 20-0

Our Andrew Johns cup grandfinal winning 5/8, Morgan Carter, was in the Narwan side that won the under 17s title

Yowies leading 4 - 0 at halftime in women's final.

2 Knights HVN players, Brandii Davis-Welsh and Saxbii shaw, playing in the opposition.

Yowies have Caitlan Johnston and her sister, Caitlan Moran, Leah Ollerton, the Darcy sisters and a few other ex and current Knights.

Yowies look on top, but only just. It's a close game.

Yowies won 14 - 0 in the Women's GF

They swept the grades for women.

The winning try was a cut out pass from dummy half from Leah Ollerton to Caitlan Johnson to barge over for a try.

How old is Moran? She looked a class above in that game, especially her kicking game.
Her opposite number, Brandii Davis-Welsh, was in our Harvey Norman squad this year, but only got limited minutes off the bench. She could be someone to help fill our halves gap.

Matt McEwen started this year in Laurie Daley cup and moved up to SG Ball, which means he is 17/18 this year. He got a game or 2 of Flegg, but it's fair to say he jumped up at least 2 or 3 levels above any level he's played today, and he was as good as anyone.
I've been thinking he'd go OK if the gave him a firstgrade pre-season, and I think he showed today that he would hold his own, like his brother did at the same age.
