    Gasnier to return to NRL

    - Gasnier's wife has just found out her father has cancer, so she and Mark are keen to return home.
    - He wants to return before June 30 says Rothfield.

Well you know when the Knights are linked to anyone - it means we have scared them away

Are there any players left we haven't named?

On Gasnier... would be awesome, the strike centre we need.

Pretty shocked when i just read that he is set to return to the NRL! They all end up coming back!

As for the Knights, not even a chance i reckon. He cant play for another club, but the Dragons.. till 2012 anyway.

If he wants a premiership this year, go to the Dragons... but as the article says... they will struggle to fit him in their cap, so he may not care where he goes.

The way weve been defending, doesn't appeal to anyone does it. Mark Gasnier coached by Rick Stone as opposed to Wayne Bennett, please.

Still knowing us, i cant see it happening.

Dragons look deseperate to sign him.. seeing as they have already made contact with the NRL. And im sure he would prefer going back to the Dragons.

Dragons will find a way to fit him under the cap, me thinks.

Why do the papers even mention our name in all of this. We are the joke of the NRL as far as attracting players.

It all comes down to how much the Dragons have to pay him. If they only have a couple hundred thousand then it would be wrong for them to uphold the clause that doesnt allow him to play for another club for obviously the type of money he is worth, especially when he is forced to return to Aus becuase his father in-law has cancer!

I think our chances are probably better than they first seem

I'd take Gasnier over Lulia, Wes or an ageing mad dog every day. Gaz and Sau would give us a top class centre combination.

Still be good if we could get our guys to realise the game goes for 80 minutes.

    Not getting too excited though

I started a thread about gasnier 2 weeks ago as I had heard that we were on the brink of a huge signing- that being gasnier. You would have to assume that the knights knew about this clause and have been attempting to sort through it. Our recruitment has always been questionable however. Lets hope they get it right this time. Signing him would be so good for our club. Fingers crossed.

It's the Knights, it wont happen.
They'll consider it, it'll get in the herald a couple of times, then we'll leave it too late and someone else will sign him. Happens everytime.

The Dragons will never relax that clause. They have the ability to stop a genuine talent from playing for anyone else for another 2 years, no chance of them letting that go. Also I actually think the Dragons will have a little bit of room in the cap, when you look at their roster there isn't to many players who you would consider to be in the same pay bracket as most of Melbourne's stars.

Also Gasnier will more than likely be willing to accept a little bit less than his value to return to the club that he spent so long at for a season or two before the Dragons will be able to afford to pay him more in a season or two

Not sure how the saints would find it possible to fit him under the cap tbh.If they manage to i have a feeling we will end up with Beau Henry here for sure.
