The Newcastle Knights may have the bye in the NRL this weekend, but the Club still has a number of players running around in representative fixtures.

Seven players in total have been selected to play for Australia, Samoa, Fiji and Country in the annual Representative Round.

Fullback Darius Boyd has retained his position on the wing in the Australian side for the World Champions Trans-Tasman Test match-up against New Zealand at Allianz Stadium on Friday night.

Jarrod Mullen and Tyrone Roberts will join forces in the halves for Country, while they'll be joined by Beau Scott who has been named captain and winger James McManus to take on rivals City at Apex Oval in Dubbo on Sunday.

Club legend Danny Buderus will also be involved with Country as an assistant coach to head mentor Trent Barrett.

On the international stage, forwards Korbin Sims and David Fa'alogo will put their club allegiances aside when they represent Fiji and Samoa respectively in the 2014 Pacific Rugby League International at Penrith's Sportingbet Stadium on Saturday.

Coach Wayne Bennett is thrilled to have so many players selected in representative teams, admitting the timing of the bye is perfect.

"We'll be affected in all those areas, so we’ve just taken the whole week off and see what we’ve got next Monday week when we all get back together again," Bennett says.

Asked if Mullen's strong performance against the Bulldogs on Saturday night enhanced his NSW Origin chances, Bennett was forthright in his response.

"Of course it will," he enthuses.

"He is a much more mature player and he is a real linchpin in our team.

"He is only in his third game back and two of them he has been outstanding and one of them he was good.”

Both the NSW and Queensland Under 20s Origin teams will be announced tomorrow with the Club's undefeated NYC team set to have a number of players selected.

BJ 19th man for Aus maybe??

Probably not named for Samoa because of his desire to play for NSW.

Surely there is a better halfback then Roberts for Country??

Roberts has probably been named because they want Mullen to control the game. Thrown hodgo in there and they probably don't get what they want from Mullen.

i can't see any other reason behind it.

    Who's Hodgo?

Country had major slim pickings to partner Mullen. Might aswell go with his club partner.

On the plus side, most players improve with rep games.
It couldn't hurt Roberts to get some input from a new coach and play with some new players.

Carney, Maloney and Kelly all injured this week, so thats the only reason Roberts would have been picked I can see.

Not sure if it would be better playing Mullen with Roberts, or pair him with a guy like Robson, who plays a more similar roll to Pearce than Roberts does.

It's a shame they can't make a few exceptions to the eligilability rules, cause it'd be good to see Sezer/Brooks get a full game for the benefit of NSW.

7 rep players not bad for a bunch of hacks. I'm proud of each & everyone of them. Don't understand the continual Roberts hate. The guy gives his all every time he takes the field, yes he makes mistakes but hey, he's human & it's because he's having a go! He's also still only 22 & learning. I've said it before & will keep saying it, two dominant halves don't work, the old "too many cooks spoil the broth" scenario, two people trying to bark orders will only confuse the play. Maybe, just maybe the selectors can see the special combination that Mullo & Roberts have, their abilities & what they bring to the team. Shame a few more Knights fans can't see it.

Jarrod Mullen has “soared into contention” for an Origin recall according to Trent Barrett

NEWCASTLE five-eighth Jarrod Mullen has “soared into contention” for a NSW Origin recall according to Blues great Trent Barrett — who has also given the Knights playmaker an unlikely boost in his quest to wear a sky blue jersey.

As a coach of the NSW Country side, Barrett last night called up Knights halfback Tyrone Roberts to partner Mullen in the annual City-Country match at Dubbo this Sunday.

The surprise decision came after a host of playmakers, including Rooster James Maloney, Shark Todd Carney and Gold Coast Titan Albert Kelly all succumbed to injury in NRL games over the weekend.

While Mullen has played only the one Origin game, seven years ago, Barrett believes he is now right in the mix to take the jersey from Maloney, who could be sidelined for between two and four weeks with an AC injury.

“Jarrod Mullen has soared back into contention,’’ Barrett confirmed.

“Right at the moment there’s a real opportunity for somebody, particularly with Maloney going down, Carney going down, there’s a real opportunity there.

“So this game, it means plenty.

"You’ve got Jarrod and Josh Reynolds, it’s going to be a big game for him, plus John Sutton.

"I haven’t picked anyone who doesn’t have something to play for.”

Barrett said both Kurt Gidley and Michael Ennis had been rested because, not only where they carrying niggling injuries, but “Laurie Daley knows exactly what both of them can do at Origin level”.

I do think it's a bit of a joke not having BJ in there, if it isn't for eligibility reasons. He is literally one of the form centers of the comp. He should be able to physically dominate Tate if he plays on that side.

Good example of this was Sean Rudder, a solid player with an accurate kicking game who never got in Joey's way.

It's a bit of a shame for Mullen that we lost against the Bulldogs, he was far better than Josh Reynolds & I think if we won people would be talking about Mullen as the Origin 6. But because the Bulldogs won, all things I've seen since are people praising Reynolds for a good game.

Nar the knights should be worrying about their NRL season not rep games. Its been a horrible start to the year for them and no more risks should be taken with key players,
no one is really interested in international games at this time of year and City VS Country is usually a waste of time too.

It should be good for them, it would be fun for them to get out to the camps with a bunch of new players & coaches for a week & all the other guys get a good rest from football to freshen up.
