One of the most naturally talented and gifted players I've seen play the game. Knights would be nothing without him and most likely wouldnt have made the finals 2 years running.

With the right team and structures in place this kid could be anything.

I really hope this is the year Ponga steps up for us and becomes considered one of the games elite.

The way I see it he's either playing for us to secure a bag or playing to put himself in the shop window for the Dolphins, either way I'm hoping for a big year..

Im hoping that Clune and Clifford run the team and take any pressure off Ponga so he can pick his moments to rip teams apart and in the trial Clune and Clifford were doing that .
Im even more excited for the season after watching that trial we have a talented pair of halves and good pack and most of our young guys coming through looked good too , especially Thompson.

Also in the trial Ponga was used effectively as a decoy.
If this continues it will help his game.
I thought that too. My preference is get him with his hands on the ball as much as possible, get him into first receiver. But the coaches know better than me, or it's just not Ponga's style to do that, so if not that, then I guess get the ball in the hands of other players to surprise the opposition, then hit 'em with Ponga when they least expect it.

No doubt about it Ponga has the gift. Everything but kicking, which apparently Johns has been working with him on so hopefully that improves.

Would love to see Clune and Clifford take over most of the playmaking and free Ponga up to roam both sides of the field and pop up in support or if he sees something on and get involved. Vs trying to be an in the line half for us in attack and a fullback for us in defence.

I think I’d prefer to see him taking his opportunities as he sees them rather than getting the ball in hand at all times and trying to pull a rabbit out of a cat (much harder than pulling one out of a hat).

Its really annoying hearing ponga say he is committed to Newcastle and wants to win a premierahip here. If thats the case he should take up his option before the season starts and put the specualtion to bed. The club has bent over backwards for him and in the scheme of things he has really delivered very little. Im at the point where Im not fussed if he stays or goes. $1-1.2m (whatever he is on) buys you anyone in the NRL. just a shame that the clubs hands are tied until june because of his player option.

If he was going to stay he would have committed already rather than let the speculation keep building.

I honestly believe he is good as gone, as mentioned previously I'm not really fussed because we aren't getting our money's worth.

How has the club bent over backwards for him though?

He is a valuable player on the market, we paid him very well to keep him here.

If he leaves I doubt it will be due to more money elsewhere, it will be because we havent got our act together fast enough and he isnt waiting any longer for us to become a premiership threat.

upgrading him when still contracted, employing his father, giving him the captaincy and taking it from DSAF come to mind.

Anyone annoyed with Andre pulling the strings and worming his way into a role at the club that he has no qualifications for or is that just me being crazy still? You were warned of a circus that comes with him.

We bought him as a teenager with a handful of games and Brownie spent a whole pre-season building the team and gameplan around him.
I doubt any other teenager in the history of the game has had the red carpet rolled out for him like that.

In hindsight, we were pretty lucky that he lived up to the hype. A lot of young players don't.

For the role he is playing he is very much qualified. But hey you’re still salty coz of kalyn leaving the cows

Don't think anyone is really annoyed with his dad, isn't he just doing the same thing as the other player managers?

I'm more annoyed with Kalyn, if he was going to stay he would have committed by now. This is why I believe he is as good as gone, but not fussed if he does go.

Nah not salty, we have the hammer now. Gives me solace knowing Ponga has achieved more in finals with the Cowboys so he really hasn’t delivered much away from the club as yet.

What other player manager do you know has wormed their way into an official job with a club?

Kalyn hasn’t committed because his old man is more then likely sourcing what Redcliffe would be willing to offer.

Be angry at Kalyn all you like but this circus is orchestrated by one person and it isn’t him. It’s also not the first time this has happened.
