Josh King Leaves Knights.

Kurriboy

Danny 'Bedsy' Buderus
Signs with another NRL club.

No it isn't April, im serious.

Edit, holy cow it is the storm. Look for kingy to suddenly turn in to SOO player.

Toohey article in the Herald says King negotiated a 2 year deal at Melbourne after being told by O'Brien that he was "unlikely" to get a new deal at the Knights.
Bit to unpack in that.

Unlikely to get a new deal at the Knights?
What's O'Brien on?
He must have something up his sleeve.
I hope but not confident.
I'm losing a bit of faith in O'Brien.

Im actually gaining faith. You can’t give people contracts because they are a good bloke and try hard. We won’t win a premiership with him in our 17.

All the best to Josh not the most talented by any means but always seemed to give a 110% on and off the field. Particularly last 18 months seemed to be developing into a first grader but had probably hit his ceiling with us. Hope he does well!

EDIT: Re something up his sleeve I think its pretty apparent we have little to no room in our cap at the moment. Frizell, Pearce, Ponga, Klemmer and Dan possibly all on monster contracts would be swallowing up around 50% of our cap, its hardly a suprise. I will not be suprised if we lose a big name over the summer.

We have three big guys in the twins and Klemmer, and also Sue signed for next year.
They all offer the same sort of prop forward energy that King offers, only better.
We need some forwards with ball skills and maybe some footwork and a bit of speed.
Some variety.
Even the guys coming through are all big boppers who run hard and little else.

If he makes the 17 at the Storm (I'd say he will) he is a very good chance of winning a premiership

Absolutely. But we aren’t the Storm. I think moving forward retaining King isn’t really an issue. Time to bring a couple of younger guys up and go to market for a better forward or two. You’re going to look instantly better in the Storm system. I think he will be very similar to Eisenhuth down there

I didn’t expect this at all, but I wish Kingy all the best and I hope he can crack their 17 and turn into a consistent prop under Bellamy and a fantastic system.

A positive is that we can now focus on continuing to develop players like Saulo, Momoisea and Croker for those roles.

Will be good to see Kingy get a ring, would have no opportunity at any other club.

Best of luck to him.

I do think our style of play is heavily built around our forward pack and we need that second bench prop to offer a bit more.

Melbourne have only lost twice this year with only Chris Lewis & Eisenhuth as their bench middles for most of the year.

He may very well crack their 17 regularly you know.

These type of forwards are going to be obsolete very soon... you will only need 1 or 2 of them in your 17 each week.

Speed and footwork and a motor is what's required under the touch footy rules
