Jacob Saifiti

Toohey says Glasby "could" be medically retired "if" he can't be cleared to return to playing.
I read that as Glasby "will" be medically retired "when" he can't be cleared to return to playing - because I don't think Toohey would be putting that in the paper unless the club were happy for it to be out there.
And every week that goes by without him getting a clearance makes that more likely.

After the whole McManus fiasco, wouldn't surprise me if we just let him retire and pay him next year medical retirement or not.

Prior to his recent spate of headknocks had he ever had a history of knocks...……. Seems odd to me.

Pretty impressive quotes from Jacob Saifiti.

Acknowledges it's hard to predict the future, but wanted to stay with his brother and develop under the coaching staff for as long as possible.

Said that other players end up more disappointed when they take big money offers elsewhere and I think moving up the ranks with his brother and developing the bonds with other players has helped his cause for wanting to stay here.
Said he didn't even want to know what the offers were elsewhere, so I imagine the Dragons/Dogs and probably Dogs were offering more then 500-600k if Baz's quotes for re-signing on 'considerably less' were accurate.

Didn't want it to be played out in the media which is probably why we didn't hear much on it, just a matter of when and not if it would happen.

I guess reading between the lines, his goal is to play Origin at some point like his brother did, and I think that's probably where the opportunities to 'make more money' as he put it was what he was referring too, which is more then possible.
And I imagine playing with a better team and better players who continue to improve, the chances of that are more likely staying in Newcastle.

Hopefully they are signed beyond 2022 as well...

And he is closer to premiership glory here than at ether of those, or likely any other club willing to pay him 600k per year.

He like others, can see we are building to a very good shot at the premiership over the next 2 years. May as well stay and be a part of that than go elsewhere and struggle.

He can do that after two years if need be.

I always think the quick big money contract costs players in the long run. Earn your big money for a few years and then you struggle to get any where near that again.

I bet he is hoping to play origin WITH his brother this year or next . IF we got a top four spot anythings possible from there and the boys would have to be playing good footy at the time so SOO is possible for both .

Sounds great but 3 front rowers in origin would completely cripple us.
