Harold Matthews & SG Ball 2025

12 - 14
Roosters winger has a double off the first set of the second half.
CC came out strong

16 - 14 - try to Callum Elsley in the corner

we have been over the line and held up 3 times in the second half

Butler just missed into the wind from the sideline

20 - 20
try to winger Kade Paton

Butler has a chance to go ahead from the other sideline this time

24 - 20

Cooper Votano did his first good thing all game and made a clean line brake and set up Mulherin for a try near the posts

Having seen the Warriors play earlier - they will be hard to beat - they looked like an SG Ball side - big and athletic.

  • Cooper Townsend 1'
  • Chip Valentish 22'
  • Callum Elsley 41'
  • Kade Paton 49'
  • Curtis Mulherin 56'

Shows heart and composure from the lads they could have easily let their heads drop, but they fought for it and came out on top

I thought we were off our game compared to the win 2 weeks ago.
I think we were over the line 4 times without getting it down.
Butler was as classy as ever, but Votano and Rostron had games they'd like to forget - apart from Votano having the run of the game to set up the winning try.
We'll be better for the run, but will need to be to match the Warriors - they look next level.

All the best for our HM boys this weekend! The last year we won this was in 2019. A almost perfect season for those boys only losing one game throughout. Produced the likes of Pezet, Myers, Keely all who have had NRL time and we have Jacob Davis remaining from that champion side. Prior to that 2017 had a mere B.Best! Cmon knights let’s lock in what we are working so hard on to develop!

This will be our 6th HM grandfinal since 2014.

2014 We won 34 - 4 v Penrith. Brodie Jones was our captain and Tom Starling was our player of the year, but player of the GF was Hudson Young, who proved to be an unstoppable try scorer in big games. Brodie Jones, Tom Starling, Hudson Young, Sam McIntye, Pasami Saulo came from that side.

2016 we lost 14 - 16 V Parramatta. Crossland and Madden were our star halves, but some nobody from Parra named Dylan Brown in 7 got the win for Parra. Players out of that game were Crossland, Madden and Best.

2017 we won 26 - 20 V Manly. Manly were short priced favourites and their fullback, Albert Hopoate, was being talked about as a future superstar. Bradman Best had the game of his young life, scattering defenders like nine pins and making his opposite number, Hopoate, look like a chump. Best was the only firstgrader to come out of that squad.

2019 we won 28 - 8 V Canterbury. Player of the GF was Max Bradbury, but our leader and my MOTM was Jonah Pezet. Canterbury threw everything at us early in the game and we had to defend for set after set, but when we finally got a chance to attack, guys like Fletcher Myers, Oryn Keeley, Chris Veaila, Max Bradbury, Jake Crouch and Pezet took them to pieces. Noah Nailgolivia was heroic in defence. Mitch Henderson was also strong in defence.

2023 we lost 6 - 32 V Canterbury. Connor Votano scored our only try. Players like Votano, Loza, Hilliar and Hopwood did a firstgrade pre-season this year.

I won't name players from this year's side - but my Mathews side 2014-2024.

1 Votano
2 Fletcher Myers
3 Bradman Best
4 Sam McIntyre
5 Chris Vea'ila
6 Jock Madden
7 Jonah Pezet
8 Brodie Jones
9 Tom Starling
10 Jake Crouch
11 Max Bradbury
12 Hudson Young
13 Kurtis Dark

14 Jack Hilliar
15 Oryn Keely
16 Pheonix Crossland
17 Cody Hopwood

Article about the GF today.
Says we are massive underdogs against the giant Warriors side, but lists the gritty wins we have had and says we are eyeing an upset win.
Has photos of the boys training in pouring rain and ankle deep water with Kurt Gidley and Steve Simpson. They all appear to be having a ball, playing in the rain.
