Titans and coach Garth Brennan to part ways

    Michael Chammas Chief Reporter
    Sun 14 Jul 2019, 01:09 PM

The Gold Coast Titans are parting ways with coach Garth Brennan effective immediately.

The Titans, who sit at the bottom of the ladder after 17 rounds, will begin their search for a new coach, however, the club’s assistant coaches are expected to take over in the meantime alongside Mal Meninga.

An announcement is expected in the next 24 hours. Meninga was due to present his findings from an internal review at a board meeting on Monday morning, however, it appears Brennan and the Titans have agreed to part ways.

The Titans are yet to make an official announcement.

Queensland coach Kevin Walters and St Helens coach Justin Holbrook are the early frontrunners for the job vacated by Brennan’s departure.

    More to come

He was a highly rated coach before he went to the Gold Coast.

    I wonder what went wrong?

For mine the day Meninga was appointed to undertake a review, Garth was doomed and Kevvy groomed to step in. A post mortem would be a much better option as a Club on the Gold Coast has never worked.

The Titans are career suicide for coaches & players at the moment unfortunately. It's a bit sad since they are a very young club & the constant instability & poor on field form isn't helping them gain fans or finances which will only lead to the inevitable.

All the good players in qld want to play for the Broncos or Melbourne and for the last few years the Cowboys have been the 3rd option.
Titans get 4th pick, but only if they pay overs, because a lot of players would still rather be a fringe player at the Broncos than a regular starter at the Titans.

We all know the Titans will fold its just a matter if its 2 years or 5 years, history shows footy their doesn't work.

Get a team in Perth ASAP they are hanging for it particularly after the Western force farce.

Having their halfback running off having a sook after a million dollar contract doesn't help, ditto with Peachy, 2 senior players like that going off the rail would destablise any team for mine.

He was basically Rick Stone 2.0, some guys make good coaches at reserve grade level but aren't cut out for it in first grade. Basically kept picking the same underperforming players each week also killed any momentum for the Titans.

I blame Uncle Benny palming Ash off to the Tits and overstating his value to save the Doncs paying some of his earnings. Then Ash was poorly led by the Hayne Plane joining Hayne in the campaign to sack Neil Henry "If he stays we go' then seeing Hayne walk out anyway.

R_A most of the Tits players are under performers á lá Boyd, Wallace, Arrow, Ash, AJ, Peachey etc.

Problem is they were underperforming last year as well. Buck stops with the coach week in week out and some of the Titans' performances have been downright pathetic. It's up to the coach to pick the best 17 to do the job even if it means unpopular choices. Brennan has failed to do all of the above.
