Ex-Knights Watch

Over a year since he last played - and about 2 years since he got an injury free run - playing Flegg 2 years young for us.

Really hope he can stay healthy for the rest of the year, and maybe come back to us if the Warriors don't want him.
 
So at magic round, I saw a group of people on Caxton Street in Liam Sutton tshirts. I'm sure clubs are now making them for the families and friends of debutants. I always thought Sutton was a first grader and was a bit of a fan myself. So I thought I'd g'day to the Sutton entourage. I preface this by saying I was in a Knights jersey. I approached an older bloke on the outside of the group and asked if he knew Liam. He said he was his grandfather so I said I wanted to congratulate him on his grandsons debut. He said flat out that he'd never been given a look in at Newcastle and was glad he got out. I said I'd seen him play a couple of dozen times and liked him as a player. I wondered out loud if the new regime at the Knights may have treated him better. I gave a heart felt good luck to all the family and started moving off. At that point someone on the other side of the gathering spotted me and actually started booing. His missus told him to stop as I'd been nice to them all, but it kinda shows how much they felt the kid had been put through. Anyway, he is 2 from 2 in first grade now and going alright. I'm happy for the kid.
 
Sutton should have got a run for us, but he was pretty raw and had nothing but a good running game when he arrived here.
He was a hell of a lot better player after 3 firstgrade pre-seasons and about 50 or 60 reserve grade games in 3 or 4 different positions.
He had a great combination with Hastings in his last year with us and learnt a hell of a lot of the skills we saw today.
 
He goes alright. I don’t anticipate any of us wanting to swap Sharpe or Brown for him though.

Might be yet another sign of how unhappy players were under the AOB regime, that they’d boo a random Knights fan. Him not being across who’s doing well in the lower grades was very much a feature. The story about Cody “earning” his debut by going to his office and asking for it is actually pretty bad, season’s gone and he wasn’t thinking about blooding Cup players until it was pressed upon him? Nah man.
