    Levi extends Knights contract

    Wed 24th September, 03:49PM

Newcastle Knights Under 20s captain Danny Levi has agreed to a two-year extension, which will see him at the Club for at least the next three years.

The 18-year-old from Wellington joined the Knights midway through last season on a contract through to the conclusion of the 2015 season.

“Danny has been a wonderful addition to our Under 20s and we are pleased he has signed with the Club long term,” CEO Matt Gidley said.

“He remains eligible to play another year with the Under 20s before he will graduate to our senior squad.

“Under the guidance of our ruck coach Danny Buderus, we look forward to Danny’s further development at the Knights.”

Levi, who didn't miss a game in 2014, is excited to sign a contract extension with the Knights.

"It's been a big dream of mine and for it to come true, it's a big accomplishment for me and my family as well,” Levi said.

After leading the young Knights to the Holden Cup minor premiership and earning selection in the Holden Cup Team of the Year, a big season is capped off after the emerging hooker was named in the Junior Kiwis train-on squad.

"It has been a really good season for me, we've had a really good bunch of boys the whole time,” Levi added.

"They've helped me out a lot, and I owe a lot to them.

“Winning the minor premiership was an awesome feeling and we accomplished a lot during the season.

“I'm hoping to improve my physical ability, as well as mental ability and hopefully have an even bigger year next year.”

Following the Knights elimination from the Holden Cup finals series last weekend, the Under 20s return to pre-season training in early November.

    good news.
He should have his first chance to train with firstgrade next year. He is a very good trainer, so he should make rapid progress when training with the big boys.
It's a pity he was born in mid december - another couple of weeks and he would qualify for 2 more years of nyc.

From limited time seeing him play this year, he certainly looks like a great player already.

May be an outside chance of playing a first grade game or two next year.

In one of his recent interviews he said he learnt a lot this year from George N'daira. I'd forgotten George was an assistant coach for NYC this year, but since he said it, you can really see the scoots out of dummy half are right out of the George playbook.

George Ndaria looks like he may develop into a great coach down the track, or at the very least a great assistant coach.
