Chanel Mata'utia released by the Knights

I was shocked to see the Knights released Chanel M this morning.

Apparently he requested it and is going to play local league and look for a job

Leaves the Knights down another back but from 4 brothers suddenly down to 2

While I didn't expect him to be offered another contract next year I am surprised doesn't sound like he has a job lined up yet?

Chanel never seemed to enjoy playing football.
In under 20s he was our top try scorer year after year, but he'd go games without making a tackle. He just didn't seem to think tackling was his job.
There have been several comments over the years that led you to think he wasn't very motivated.
Bit of a shame because on the rare occasions he was fit and keen, he was the best winger we have produced since Uate.

Great stuff, lets hope Pat follows suit.

had a lot of talent, promising young fella. but completely understandable if he doesn't have the drive to keep going.

would have been nice for Chanel No.5 to pull the pin before we let his brother go to England. Pete would have been a handy depth signing especially seeing we have a limited amount centres.

Pete left because he didn't want to be a depth player.

Pretty surprised. All the injuries must’ve really dented his confidence and passion for the game. Hope he finds that spark again playing in the local league. On the plus side, hopefully this means Tom Hughes can get a call up at some stage.

I always sensed a bit of lackadaisicalness in his game but I knew if he was just able to get an extended run in NRL he'd be a hit. Wasn't to be, a lot of players just aren't cut out for the constant training & fitness of NRL year in year out.

He could have stayed and earned but chose to go, well done, best of luck.
Sad that we have this hatred for the four brothers from some, they are all quite talented, some more than others but somehow cop more criticism than deserved. Time will tell what happens with the remaining two.

Unfortunately it is due to the fanfare around their last contract signing. Chanel & Pat weren't your above average rookies coming through, but they got dragged along with the Sione hype in trying to keep him here. I don't buy into Lord's conspiracy theories about Wayne sabotaging us by talking up Sione, but unfortunately Sione has yet to live up to that superstar hype he was gaining mostly due to Bennett's comments, some good winger's tries on the end of a team playing well & an insane berth in the Kangaroos' side. At this stage, his highest potential looks like a good clubman that will put his best foot forward every game, but no superstar. Due to all that mania back in 2014, the 3 Mata'utia boys are/were on good enough contracts to steal them back from the Bulldogs, potentially all on overs, but haven't lived up to it, therefore creating the resentment from supporters.
