    He was always just here to do a restructure.
    Job done.
    The new director of football will be for operational stuff and not to restructure.

    Article on NRL.com says O'Brien will have a big say on who gets the job because they have to work closely together.

    Yeah it's not really news and if it didn't happen now it may have happened in 12 months if the right person popped up. Probably a better time now with the new coach as Canavan's time was always a matter of if he had gotten the job done (which himself and Garnder mentioned he did).
    They must be confident in getting who they want as Canavan was the best person for that job (maybe even a little overqualified) but whoever gets the role next won't have as difficult of a role as Canavan did with everything set up.
    So kudos to Garnder for making all of that happen despite what the dumb Sydney media portray him as.
