Really surprised at that but go Aku. Love the guy, has to be signed for life next contract. Has winger ever won the Dally M?

Fantastic! I'm pleased to see Aku win this. Great great player and the scary thing is, he's only gonna get better. I hope to see him remain a Knight for life.

He still needs to work alot on his defense, and on his catching, but when he gets those things right, he's easily going to be the best winger around, and could even be one of the best ever.

he could be anything. the thing is that doesn't come into factor for wining the knights player of the year is our players dont have to tackle him or feel the intimidation when he throws himself around. so other players are the best judge really

I agree with the defense part he needs to learn a better technique but I think he is pretty good under the high ball . He did drop a few in the last couple of games but other than that he has been pretty good . Bennett is the master of defense hopefully he will work on Uate's , Hang on to your hats people this guy is going to a superstar .

He wasn't to bad in defense catching up until the last few rounds, but he dropped every kick that came to him in attack at the start of the season, infact, I can only remember him catching 1 kick this year, the banana kick Mullen put in, in the Titans game.

Pretty sure noone outside a 1, 6, 7 or 9 has won the Dally M. Shows what a joke it is. The last time someone won the POTY award outside those positions was Gavin Miller in 1989, I think.

I dont think a Winger would ever be able to wing the Dally M though. It'd be too hard. Aku would need to score hatricks in brilliant individual tries in the majority of matches.

    Fantastic!

Definately didn't expect him to win it, but hands down he is the best and most consistent winger in the comp. Well deserved.

A former Knights player won the medal whilst playing front row.

Well it's because they touch the ball three times as much as any other player...also there is a lot more focus and pressure on the spine (plus the captain)...

The only people outside of those positions I can see ever winning a Dally M in our generation is Paul Gallen and Sammy Thaiday if he had a blinder of a year.

Yes, the Rothmans Medal in 94?. Bit confusing looking back because that was the major award pre-96, while the Dally M equivalent was the secondary award. Sargent also won it in 1989 along with Miller.

Glenn Stewart most likely would have won it this year if he wasnt suspended. He polled 27 votes compared to Slaters 29, but had 9 taken away due to the 3 week suspension (3 votes/week). So he would have had to only poll 2 or more votes in the last two games to get the award.

What was the award that Mark Glanville and another player split i keep thinking it was Gavin Miller that he split it with but cant remember what the award was ....Peter Sterling once said that Mark Glanville was the best player to never have played State of Origin pretty good hey .Brad Clyde was in front of him at lock and he was awesome .

Yeah Miller and Sargent shared the Rothman's Medal in 89 ... It was the major award until 1998, and was voted on by the refs after each game. It was definitely won by a better range of positions than the Dally M!

    Added after 19 minutes:

Sensational achievement, and well deserved. Congrats Aku!!! :)

The bloke who played for the Knights that won the Rothman's Medal I was referring to was David Fairleigh.
