Rugby League Week are on the look out for the 8th immortal. They have a panel of judges that includes Wayne Bennett, Ray Warren and Ray Hadley, Roy Masters and Phil Rothfield, and ARL Commission Chairman John Grant.

Who does everyone think it will be? To me it seems pretty coincidental that they announced the naming of the 8th immortal just as Johns became eligible.

Cant be Lockyer. Players have to be retired for 5 years.

I don't think it would be Lockyer even if he was eligable. Sure, he achieved everything, but he was rarely the main man for those victories, and he would be quite a step below all the other previously inducted Immortals.

How could an Immortal be inducted when they have never even won a player of the year award?

With experts like Rabs, Hadley and Rothfield on the voting panel I'll find it hard to take the result too seriously.
I'll say Joey but seeing all of Norm Proven's achievements I think he might deserve it more.

Seriously? Rothfield, Hadley and Warren? Please...They aren't the real judges are they? This is just some stupid RLW column filling rubbish, right?

I'd absolutely love to see Joey get it, but in a way I can't see him getting it, mainly because of the 'drug' incident. In saying that I believe he's the most deserving (completely unbias), he achieved so much and they shouldn't let that interfere with their decision. What he achieved on the field is the only thing that should be looked at.

Apparently on the footy show last night the judges on the panel said immortals were picked purely on their on-field achievements.

I just watched that, that's good otherwise it's unfair. But you still think at the back of their minds it might influence some of the judges decisions. Seems like Maniga is a fair chance. I'm keen to hear the verdict.

Is this a joke or something?? Darren Lockyer is an absolute champion of our game one of the greatest players of all time. He has won everything and despite by some ludicrous thinking on your part he was the conductor for Brisbane and directed them pretty much every year especially in 06' where he drove the Broncos past an ILLEGAL Melbourne team in the Grand Final. Also Lockyer won the Golden Boot for the best player in the world twice in 03' and 06'.

If he is eligible I see no reason why he shouldn't get picked.

Surely it has to be Meninga

Look at his record as a player:

166 games for Canberra (3 premierships)
    32 games for Queensland
    46 games for Australia

    And as a coach:

    125 games for Canberra
18 games for Queensland (6 SOO titles)

Hate to say it but he will provide a much bigger legacy than Joey.
