    Juniors gain Australian selection

    Wed 30th July, 10:20AM

They play in the same SG Ball side as best of mates and together they'll all don the iconic green and gold of Australia in England this November.

Meet Jack Cogger, Brock Lamb and Braden Robson, the emerging Knights who have been rewarded with selection in the Australian Schoolboys side after starring for NSW CCC at the National Championships in Darwin earlier this month.

The gifted trio combined to steer their state to glory, now they have their sights set on the world stage with the Junior Kangaroos.

"All three of us are just honoured to be a part of such a successful NSW team in Darwin," enthuses Cogger, a skillful halfback who recently won the prestigious Carlson-Club Andrew Johns as the Club's leading 17-year-old player.

"We went through the tournament undefeated and then for all three of us from Newcastle to make the final Australian Schoolboys team is an honour and I’m all really proud."

It's a feeling very much shared by Cogger's halves partner Lamb, who rates representing his country as the highlight of his young career.

"I think it’s just one of the greatest honours to be able to represent your country and your family and friends," Lamb beams.

"To get that jersey means that you have really worked hard and got to where you want to be, but now you’ve just got to go further."

Robson is also pumped about the prospect of playing for Australia and capping off a successful season personally.

On top of his efforts with the Club's SG Ball side, the proud Murwillumbah junior has also excelled playing in the Club's table-topping NYC side.

It's a rapid rise Robson insists couldn't happen without the support of his teammates.

"I’d have to say playing with two mates who I’ve played all year with just makes it easier," Robson says.

"I've enjoyed stepping up to the 20s this year and hopefully I can build my career from here."

Robson and his mates Cogger and Lamb will get their chance to progress further when they travel to Europe in November as part of the Australian Schoolboys tour.

The three lads will play seven games in total in tour, including four big Test matches against England and France.
Cogger says he can't wait to pull on the Aussie jumper and make his family and friends proud.

"It will be winter over there at the time, so it’s going to be a bit different compared to playing over here in the heat," he grins.

"But it’s something that we are all looking forward to and it will be a great experience and hopefully I can make everyone happy with my efforts."

Cogger says the tour will also be a chance to showcase the great talent the Club has coming through the ranks on the international stage.

"The Club is very good at producing juniors and we are very lucky to be a part of the system," he says.

"It has helped us along the way and we’ve been under a lot of great coaches who have taught us a lot.

"Hopefully we can take that over to England and show them what the Knights are producing."

We have a lot of guys who have played for Australian schoolboys. Mullen, Snowden, Uate, Sione, Pat, Chad Redman. Most guys who make the Australian Schoolboys go on to play firstgrade before they are finished.
