2026 / 2027 hooker options

My main realistic picks in my eye would be Paix, Smoothy in that order but either one would do the job we need
Smoothy has signed a 3 year deal for a Super League team. I would honestly only take Levi ro Paix for cheap on a 1 year maybe and a big maybe for a 2 year deal. I think Arthur and Graham are close to being first graders, plus Crossland is there (current NZ 9) and Smith is reportedly signed as 9 so I'm going to assume that until proven otherwise...

Of all the Hookers available to sign are any better for season 26 than Brailey who we let go or asked to leave.
Why didn’t we offer him a one year contract that might allow Arthur to develop a bit further.

When will this club and fans alike realise that hooker is a specialist position. A good pass and some footwork dont make you a hooker.
Ponga and grants contracts expire at the same time just saying.

Only the Knights could sign a player that is young, shows class at halfback and has good potential, not to mention being instantly better than all our halfback options and go “you know what, hooker”

I think the plan is Sandon to hooker but if the Brown to 7 thing fails than they can instantly switch to brown back to 6 and Smith to 7. Somewhat of a insurance policy.

Danny Buderus' first game at hooker was in first grade
Same for Phoenix I think, the key thing in both cases IMO: they’re big, strong, physical. Great defensively. Super fit. Bedsy being such an elite attacking 9 on top of it was just luck rather than something predictable and repeatable.

Not being able to handle the physical workload is the #1 reason why young hookers don’t pan out. Being able to tackle all day without a drop in levels is why Mitch Kenny is going to be a 250+ gamer while a whole host of nippier, more skillful 9’s can only survive in the Super League.

I don’t like the idea of having the spine change during the season. That’s what’s ****ed us up, the chopping and changing of halves and now hooker! Work it out in the pre- season and STICK with it.

Hopefully the new coach doesn’t make the same mistakes the previous one did.

Pick and stick to what end.

If you have a combo that’s clearly not working do you decide “**** it let’s throw the season away for the sake of pick and stick” or do you get rid of them?

You work it out the pre-season, what is the best option. Then you give the combinations 3 months. Not like we haven’t “thrown” seasons away already. We might have to go through some pain to get a gain.

Have trust in the players picked in there positions. They don’t feel the pressure of being dropped. And this is all dependent on injury also. Sometimes we won’t have a choice but to change.

Sometimes the plan doesn’t work initially, but it will if you give it time and stick with it. Sometimes it was a bad plan and you should scrap it, and it will never work no matter how long you pick and stick. The trick is identifying the difference.

We need to move Marzhew on and use his spot to chase Wishard or Walters!

Gregs about $300k and Wishart would be on about $700k.

Walters would be on $400-$500k, be 32 in 2027 and coming off an ACL. - Also had 1 good season in a stellar Walsh lead Broncos team.

Repeating my view as well, our yardage will be stuffed without Greg. - Last year was literally playing on half a leg as well.

Greg is a liability in the air. I think Sharpe will take his wing spot. The new fowards coming in, will need to do more work.
