2025 Recruitment And Retention

True, but Gags is coming to the end of his career.
Yeah with Kris and Timoko both 25 and 24 respectively it's a bit of a different scenario.

Every chance Gagai plays wing if they deem Schiller a priority as well, alternatively Schiller knows he has a starting centre spot in 2 years at most when Gagai retires and will in all likelihood start on the wing outside Gagai in the meantime.

irregardless of what happens I hope he gets another stint in firsts this year. More experience, lessons learned and time to build upon then in reserves before another preseaon and he could well be starting for us next year. Looks a great athlete.

Why do we insist moving Gagai to the wing? He is still one of our best players. Schiller can develop his game playing on the wing until Gagai retires.

I think that is the case everyone is referring to. But at some point maybe next year or the year after is when they would most likely switch. Gagai is 34 next year.

This is likely what happens, but we don't really lose anything by shifting Gagai there as he retains a skillset that is suitable to playing wing and has routinely performed there in the past.

I'd prefer if Schiller plays wing, but if the deal we've made with Schiller is such that he comes on the condition of playing centre then I wouldn't begrudge us for making that deal.

Either way it really isn't a big issue.

Gags will probably go pretty suddenly when he goes as the result of getting an injury and not wanting to do a long rehab.
Best doesn't have a great injury history. Those massive legs pick up plenty of niggles.
If Schiller is a good centre he'll get plenty of chances to show it, even if he's our 3rd choice at first.
I’ve always thought best would end up in the forwards

What style/type of player is young Decourcey? Assuming 17?
At Ball level he looked bigger and stronger than those around him. He was the first of the Ball squad to make Flegg and still looked good at that level, but not an obvious standout so far.
He would be 1 year younger than Kyle McCarthy and Kyle McCarthy is bigger, more athletic and one of our best in reserve grade right now, but McCarthy had a firstgrade pre-season and De Courcey didn't.
Anyway, I'd put McCarthy ahead of De Courcey as a prospect right now, but it could change next year.
De Courcey is not unlike Dylan Lucas as a player - pretty solid, strong centre who competes hard. McCarthy is taller and more of a rangy, athletic style player.
