A very reckless shot by Head, the ball wasn’t quite short enough to cut and he had not played himself in. He let his side down there.

It good to be an attacking batsman but you need to cut out the reckless shots.

It looked like we were gone when Head got out first thing this morning but we have done enough to win.

Marsh, Carey and Cummins have played well chasing a total to win with wickets falling around them.

The Kiwis have fought hard and they are a worthy opponent.
 
Good win, good game, could have gone either way.
Aust bats 1-5 total 49 runs scored, they have been letting the side down, fortunately someone stands up and this time it was Marsh, Carey and Cummings.
 
This is the end of Australia’s summer of cricket.

We have the T20 ICC Mens World Cup from 2 to 30 June in the West Indies and the US.

Our next test is against India in Australia in November. I think we’ll need to improve our batting to win that series.
 
A frustrating series in the end for NZ, the batsmen failed to fire for the most part, and while the bowling was generally really good, some strange selections like the useless Kuggeleijn and lack of a spinner in the first test cost us. Great return from Henry and a deserved player of the series for him, and it was good to see O’Rourke and Sears take their chances. Southee will have to be considering retirement after only taking six wickets across four tests this home season.

So with only three players left from our world test championship final win in this series, it feels like the selectors are finally bringing in some new blood, but taking some all too familiar mis-steps along the way.

Our first test series loss at home since 2017 in the end, well done Australia. A big missed opportunity from NZ not to at least draw the series.
 
I hope Australia plays test cricket with the Kiwis more regularly.

NZ has some excellent fast bowlers in Henry, Sears and O’Rourke and an excellent off spinner in Phillips. Williamson is currently the best batsman in the world and a very talented batsman in Ravindra.

Yeah Ravindra is looking really promising for the future. This was Australia’s second series here in the last 13 years, I know the seasons overlap to an extent, but it would be great if they played more here. You just have to look at the crowds for the interest, tests selling out here is very rare.

And I’m not blaming Aus for that, NZC hasn’t been run well over the last decade plus. With a new CEO I think things are changing, but the old one put no value in test cricket.
 
I get what he’s saying, I think that’s what this team has been built on since McCullum took over as captain and has lead to a great culture and a lot of success. But maybe not quite the right time to air that philosophy haha.
 
Looks like the male Afghani cricket team is becoming pariahs because of the Afghani government’s treatment of women. The Afghani mens team may only be able to play in ICC events.

I’m happy the Australian government intervened.

Root stats are very impressive now, 12 274 runs at 50.71. But 64 fifties and 33 hundreds show he had an issue with converting 50’s into hundreds.

However, I think it’s time us Aussies polished our Ashes trophy. 🤣🤣🤣

He definitely had a conversion issue a while ago but seems to be over it now.

We’ll polish our moral victory trophy…. 🤣🤣🤣
