I've posted this before, but it's worth revisiting.
Article about Jirah Momoisea taking up Rugby League in his last year of school (2016) and getting a contract for Melbourne under 20s for 2017.
He only played limited games for Melbourne and came to us in 2018.
At the start of 2018 he was big and willing, but obviously had a lot to learn. He improved every game and by the end of the year was regularly doing shortish minutes off the bench in reserve grade. He went back to under 20s for the finals and had some massive, barnstorming runs in our last games.
This year he has clearly developed in leaps and bounds while doing an NRL offseason. Training staff mentioned him amongst the strongest players.
Match reports for the weekend say he had a very strong game in reserve grade and got some time in firstgrade as a reward.
So he has had 2 under 20s offseason and 1 firstgrade offseason and lifetime total of maybe 40 or 50 games of league.
You never know when guys reach their potential, but my guess is that this guy still has a lot of improvement in him.

Article in the Herald about Star Toa makes the point that we have to till June 30 to name our 3 development players to fill out the roster.
I had a look at the new rules, and last year our development players had to get permission to play firstgrade, but this year, after June 30, they can play if we want.
The cutoff age for development players is 23, so we could basically name any 3 players in our reserve grade squad by June 30, upgrade their pay, and play them in firstgrade the next week. I think even Gagai and Randall are young enough.

I don't know how old Star is, if he is old enough he could just be named as the 30th player in the first grade squad.

30th spot should be reserved for a signing or if one of the development players is killing it. We can play the development players now after June 30, so they don't need to part of the 30.

To'a I'm sure has a long way to go yet. Looked a bit like a deer in headlights in the first trial, second trial didn't get much opportunity, a brilliant try but not much else.

The point with the 3 remaining development spots is that there is no reason or advantage in giving them out before June 29.
If some kid comes from the clouds between now and then - say Hayden Loughrey, Matt Croker, Simi Sasagi, Brandon Russell, Luke Huth or even a complete longshot like that Nesta Watene kid we signed from Qld - we could parachute them into firstgrade under these rules on 1st July, but we can't use them before that date, so no point doing anything till 29th June - or 30th if we want to cut it fine.

Bunch of new profiles have been added to the reserve grade list.

Ben Thomas - 21 year old prop who played 17 games for Wyong last year.
Brandon Russell - 19 year old lock who played under 20s for us last year
Cleveland McGhie - don't know - listed as a forward
Daniel Martin - I think they mean Martine - from the local comp - listed as a forward
    Jack Cameron
Mathew Moon - half and hooker from under 20s last year
Lachlan Farr - giant winger from under 20s last year
Nash Birch - hooker and half from under 20s last year
Ofa Manuofetoa - from under 20s last year
    Heath Gibbs - under 20s
    Kiah Cooper

It must be an oversight that Matt Croker, Luke Huth and Pheonix Crossland are not listed for reserve grade after training with firstgrade all off season, but Brandon Russell, Jack Cameron and Ofa Manuofetoa, who are also under 20s and I assume trained with the reserve grade squad, are listed for reserve grade.

Dark has also signed with a QLD Cup side too. Forget which one, but he was named on the bench for a side in the recent team lists.

    He should go well.
I hope we've kept his younger brother, Joel Dark, but I haven't seen his name in either the under 18s or 20s squads so far, so maybe he's gone somewhere else.
