6-0, Bromage on Kali off for HIA - 29 minutes to go
we have both Anderson and Kali off for HIA now.
6-0 - 20 minutes to go
Purcell off, Ma'anaima on.
Jaron did a 35 minute spell.
6-0 15 to go
12-0 to the sharks with 10 to go
Purcell and Croker on for Ma'anaima and Baker for the last 10.
12-0 to sharks at fulltime.
They will finish 1st and we'll drop to 5th or 6th.
We have a knockout final next week, but should be boosted by Toa, Searle, Hoy, Russell, Cameron, Talty, Ticehurst, Marks and maybe Huth, and maybe even Best in our next round final.
We'll be hard to beat with our top side available for the first time all year.
If 3rd placed Penrith beat last placed Manly in the last game we should end up playing Canterbury in the 6th v 7th final next week.
We beat Canterbury in the regular season game, but their form is pretty good since, including 2 wins over top placed Sharks.
It should be a tough game.
Penrith are having a big win at the moment, so it looks like we play Canterbury.
Star Toa and Brandon Russell were 1st and 2nd in run metres and fantasy points in reserve grade this week, so they'll be big inclusions for us.
Brandon Russell came off the bench and ran 180 metres in 55 minutes including 68 post contact metres.
Star Toa ran 165 metres, 2 line breaks and a try.
Talty went off after 29 minutes for HIA and didn't come back on, so he must be in doubt for next week.
Brandon Russell is a bigger version of Luke Yates and he is about 4 or 5 weeks back from a long term injury and is ripping out bigger stats each game. He finished last year as close to our best in the finals in under 20s, and gets to do it again this year. Looks like we have 3 real workhorses in the forwards in Russell, Matt Croker and Jaron Purcell, and all the impact guys we have had all year in Cameron, Ticehurst, Watene, Bromage etc.
This year's forward pack is probably not quite as good as last years, but with Russell, Croker and Purcell all back from injury and starting to look good, it's getting close.
Sunday 8 September
Jersey Flegg (elimination): 5:15pm - Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs (6th) v Newcastle Knights (7th)
So apparently Matt Croker and Joe Bromage were the best forwards this week.
I think our best possible pack would be;
8 Matt Croker
9 Luke Huth
10 Jack Cameron
11 Ben Talty
12 between Hamilton and Watene I think
13 Brandon Russell
14 Liam Wilkinson
15 Daniel Ticehurst
16 Joe Bromage
17 Jaron Purcell
Great team named.
Hoy, Searle, Toa, Russell etc all in.
Bulldogs have 1 inclusion in their team from last week.
We have 7.
1. Tex Hoy,
2. Elijah Rasiga,
3. Starford To'a,
4. Dylan Lucas,
5. Justin Worley,
6. Grant Anderson,
7. Bayden Searle,
8. Jack Cameron,
9. Liam Wilkinson,
10. Mat Croker,
11. Lewis Hamilton,
12. Ben Talty,
13. Brandon Russell.
14. Matt Moon,
15. Daniel Ticehurst,
16. Nesta Watene,
17. Joe Bromage,
18. Jaron Purcell,
19. Mitch Black
13 of the 17 have played reserve grade this year. Hoy, Toa, Searle, Croker and Russell have had standout performances in reserve grade.
If Huth and Marks weren't injured and Best wasn't in firstgrade we could nearly name a complete side of reserve graders.
If we could name Crossland, who hasn't played under 20s this year, we could name 17 reserve graders, including Best and Crossland who have played firstgrade.
Is this our future?
Who knows Frank after Lamb. Meaney, Pythian and Cogger were out future.
Onosai Aunia in for Star Toa, otherwise 1-17 as named.
4-0 to the Knights after 5 minutes - try to centre Aunia.
4-6 to Canterbury after 16 minutes.
10-6 to the Knights after 22 - try to second row Talty.
Only thing to cheer about this year! Go boys
12-10 to dogs after 30 minutes
