Maybe I'm to biased but it does seem to me like we get a raw deal from the refs.

Penalties are not so much how many but when, like 3 penalties on fifth tackle are better than 5 on the first leading to long term in control of ball and field position generally leading to try/goal.
Winning the penalty count is only any good depending on where and when given

Pearce and Ponga have come up with the big plays at crucial times to win us the close games.

I do believe the squad have improved with a few exceptions, but the improvement hasn’t been great enough to make a difference.

Slots, that is why no matter how well some people on here think DSaf and Esse may or may not have gone this year our priority is for 1 ( ideally 2 ) big , mean, dominating Props for next year.

I know when fit the JSaf / DSaf rotation will be like for like but who steps up as the Esse like replacement ?

Before I am shot down with the where are they excuses , where were all the big bodies Broncos have unveiled this year alone??

Realistically they need to be complimented with big bodies off the bench as well, we can not exist with midget, lightweight bench rotations we have been reduced to recently.

Metres after contact is easy to address one high ( stops momentum , locks the ball) , one low at the legs ( release early as soon as they start to topple and get on side ) too often they hang onto the ankles too long for self preservation, because when the attacker hits the ground they immediately start thrashing around - there is no reward for a good clean ankles tackle these days and that is why the emphasis is above the hips.

For sure esse esse and dan have been really good for us this year. I think saulo will be good add glasby and j saf we have a decent pack when at full strength. But like you said if we really want to be a contender we need two more really good props. I think with raimen, lee and glasby coming next year and hopefully moga and griffin back we should be somewhere in the 8 but we need the addition of the forwards if we want to be a powerhouse club.

Another piece of the puzzle we sign. The current Tongan coach does this bring TPJ closer ?

Another bit of trivia Wolfe was Guerra’s high school coach , we know Aidan can tackle , can Wolfe get the rest of the team on the same page?

Woolfe would be an ideal reserve grade coach because he has shown he can develop players, and it looks like we will have a very young reserve grade squad with a lot of potential.
Unfortunately, it sounds like Woolfe will be assistant for firstgrade.
I'd give reserve grade to Lowrie who has done really well at developing many of the players who will be in the reserves squad next year over the last 2 years in under 20s, but if Lowrie doesn't get it, we need someone who is good at developing young players.

I know this may never eventuate but I've heard a tonne of positive comments regarding Matty Johns on Fox Sports (despite his history) with his knowledge of the game, and breaking things down. I don't know if we would consider him one day considering he has zero Head Coaching experience and that he has mainly been doing specialist work but I hope one day a team gives him a shot if he wants to do it. And if he moves up to a more higher up assistants role first. Surround him with the right staff and assistants around him so he can do the big stuff managing the team and the way they play.
There may be a mentality of (mates with the boys) but the guy is so knowledgeable and the halves he has worked with listen to him and have improved because of it. Even Fittler (at origin level) and to a lesser extent club level showed it can work.

Good to see we got our man, and would rather someone not from the storm system as I HATE them.

Be interesting to see the difference next year, also he'd seemingly be a head coach in waiting if Brown falls over. Do we have a breakdown of next years structure yet?

Probably go good, but Matty would be on HUGE dollars for his media work and doubt he'd ever give that up.

Nah Kurriboy to look for a rake, maybe replace carpet with lino!

Vave would be a reasonable buy on budget dollars.

Hasn’t been talked about but I think Sam Ayoub is a massive loss for us and it will be critical that we find a quality replacement.

We haven’t had a great run with injuries this year but I wouldn’t blame that on Ayoub’s efforts in prepping the team and managing the rehab for those who were off the paddock.

I wonder if Woolf has any good contacts in this space?

Yeah my bad - at least I got the surname right:giggle:....and didn’t realise we had already picked cupples up - anybody got any knowledge of him???

Tony Ayuob was highly regarded so I hope we’ve got someone reasonably capable
