These are new country based comps played over 7 weeks.

The Knights will have Knights branded sides in both comps, but there are also sides from Muswellbrook, Central Coast and Northern Rivers that are probably potential feeder clubs for us.

Sounds like a bit of a pre-planning for the new reserve grade that we're supposed to be getting eventually.

This comp is not new. Same concept as before just they have just given some teams new names and named the competitions after 2 former stars. Northern Rivers and North Coast were called the Dolphins and have now been split into 2 areas. Thus weakening this area. Newcastle will now play under the knights banner. Central Coast played in Roosters colours last season.

Andrew Johns Cup

Northern Rivers 22 (J Whitlam-Rose 2, L Hardy, K Fourmile-Bolt tries; T Roberts 3 goals) def. Newcastle Knights Development Squad 12 (Z Mose 2, M Aoake tries)

Laurie Daley Cup

Newcastle Knights Development Squad 40 (R Meyn 2, I Mataora, N Oldham, P Achurch, R Haidle, J Smith, B Allardice tries; W Lockwood 4 goals) def. Northern Rivers 4 (J Lee try)

Good to see Mataora is still in the system. I thought he might have left when his brother quit.

I should warn anyone wanting to watch these games that a kid in the under 16s (central coast player) goes down with an injury that requires him being immobilised and taken away in an ambulance - hopefully it was only a precaution.

Pity there's no game to watch today.
I have to say I enjoy being able to watch these game on my computer with commentary as well.
It would be great if Mathews, Ball and Flegg could all be watched this way.
The odd thing is that they record all the games, which is the hard part, and could stream them and have a few guys volunteering to commentate for basically the cost of a bit of internet download.
