Looks like Keenan wasn't the answer at halfback. He is a good ballplayer, but he wouldn't have been more than 50kg in Mathews last year, so maybe he just isn't ready for this grade yet.

We need Kurt Mann back, and we also need to see guys like Eneliko, Maa, Savin and Elias in the starting side. All those guys must be injured or returning from injury I suspect.

This is the last game of the regular season.
We should finish second and get a home final, but we need all hands on deck the week after that if we are going to win knock out games.

Pity we can't get Geordie Connelly back from NYC for a few weeks to solve our halves problem if Kurt is not going to be available.

Knights finish the season equal 1st on 16 points with Wests, but second on for and against.
Most of the best players have missed the last round. I hope the coach is just resting anyone with a niggling injury, because I can't see us winning the title without Mann, Maa, Steele and Elias.

As often happens in the junior grades, Wests were outstanding all year, but they forgot to show up for their first final and lost against 8th placed Canberra.

That means we are now the highest placed side remaining, but on the downside i think our semi will be against the only side to beat us all season, Canterbury (beat us 14-12).

At this point, we must be favourites with 2 games to go.

2nd placed Knights v 3rd placed Parra in the semi

Mathews is 3rd placed Knights v 7th placed Dogs

weird

all four finals at St Mary's - which stinks since we are listed as the home side in both our games (being the higher finishers), and both games we play western sydney sides.

Will head to the games on Saturday, so will have updates for you all.

Parra will be very tough, but on the upside we haven't played them yet. And we went very close a couple of years back with a fair amount of current players.

They were down 12-0 early against the Roosters and didn't look too convincing in their win on the weekend.

Anyone know about Kurt Mann's availablity?

The Parra Mathews side last year was miles ahead of any other side, and I assume many of those players will be in this side, but maybe won't be at their best till next year. They will be very hard to beat though, but i'm confident.
I think Kurt had a broken hand (someone told me one of the ball stars had a broken hand but he couldn't remember the name - i assume it was Kurt considering how long he has been out).
He has been out 4 or 5 weeks i think, so could be back if we make the GF, or maybe even this week.

COACH: Phil Williams

Only change is Elias and Roose swapping numbers - good move - Roose has been very good at lock all season and deserves to get the 13 back for the big games.

Hard to work out who will get the Carlsen/Johns award this year.
On early season form it would have to have gone to Kurt Mann or Jeremy Maa, but they have both spent half the season injured.

Michael Steele will probably get it, but Pat Mata'utia might be the smokey - he had a great last game of the season and he seems to want the title bad. Two Mata'utia's getting the award would be good.

Kurt Mann has been selected in the QLD under-18's.

Clydesdale seems to fly under the radar a bit, but i'd rate him the player of the season in Ball, just ahead of Rouse and Steele.
He probably didn't get MOTM in any game, but his quality work from dummy half is a good part of the reason Mann was picked for Qld and Rouse was picked for NSW - neither of those guys would have looked as good in the 7 without Clydesdale giving them clean ball, and he played full games and was solid in defence and also one of our best attacking players in his own right.
I don't even know who the backup hooker was, because i didn't see them get a run.

Tom Rouse got the Carlsen award.

Luke Clydesdale got player of the year in Ball and players player.

Rouse and Nick Ritter have also both made the CCC side for the schoolboy championships. No word yet on the other sides, but i expect several of the Hunter High boys will make the CHS side.
