With the ashes only a few short months away, I thought we could discuss the squads which we would pick if were selectors.

The last time Aust. toured England, we took 17 players over there. Cricinfo

So what would be your 17-man squad for the Ashes?

    Mine would be

    Batsmen
    Simon Katich (NSW)
    Phillip Hughes (NSW)
    Ricky Ponting (TAS)
    Marcus North (WA)
    Michael Clarke (NSW)
    Michael Hussey (WA)
    Chris Rogers (VIC)
    Brad Hodge (VIC)

    Bowlers
    Brett Lee (NSW)
    Stuart Clark (NSW)
    Mitchell Johnson (WA)
    Peter Siddle (VIC)
    Ben Hilfenhaus (TAS)
    Doug Bollinger (NSW)
    Nathan Hauritz (NSW)

    Wicket Keeper
    Brad Haddin (NSW)

NB Mods - you could use this thread as an Ashes thread when the series gets underway to avoid more threads being started

Same, but ill go with Siddle instead of Hilfy.

Spin in going to be the big issue. Also i heard somewhere, Symonds could be back...

You're English so why would you care about Australia? You dont understand that our cricket culture is different to Englands, we have had crap spinners apart from Warne and Benaud. You probably dont even know the amount ot times Ricky Ponting has been reported by the match referee or the number of women Shane Warne has slept with.

Yeah but Hilfy will be handy because he can swing the ball more than any of our other bowlers and will be the key on the green english pitches

exactly, Miller?......we have tons of quality spinners saying we have none besides warne and benuard is absolute bollocks!

Not many got to prove themselves at top level because Warne was just awesome...

    Siddle > Hilfy anyday.

Siddle would have to be one of the best pace bowlers in world cricket atm. Aggressive, fast and accurate.

I was being sarcastic and doing the exact same thing that NS does in every post.

ie proclaiming that everything is so different here to England

    Can't see England winning.

Symonds has been pretty hopeless for a while, hasn't he?

Back up keeper. The chances of him playing are slim.

    He's not the worst bat.

    Yeh exactly - IPL = 20/20 format.

Not 5 day red ball test match material.
