2021 Pre-Season.

If Pearce would change even just a third of his end of end bombs to some low kicks, stabbing kicks , unpredictable kicks to find space I reckon that would simply make him a better player right there.

Christian Ma'anaima and Dominic Young.
Both 19 years old.
Both about 6'5".
Both about 110kg.
Both very fast and athletic.
One plays prop and the other plays wing - although Christian Ma'anaima was also a wing/centre when he joined us as a 15 year old.

As part of a growing relationship with the Newcastle Knights, Tyler Coburn and Blake Lenehan have been selected by Jets coach Keiron Lander to fly to New South Wales and spend four weeks embedded in pre-season training with the Knights.

They will train full time, while living and breathing their footy right up until Christmas before heading back to Ipswich to prepare for what is going to be a blockbuster, long-awaited season in 2021.

Great idea It makes local league's better and gives us a look at players as well.

Yeah, wouldnt be a bad idea to have all NRL clubs do this every year. Target younger players to give them skills they can apply for years and over time strengthen the local leagues, which in turn will provide more NRL players as the standards increase.

Maybe we could do it with a different real nrl side each year .

It's funny how everyone wanted Daniel to slim down and be a bit more like Jacob in the lower grades, and now we want Jacob to bulk up and be a bit more like Daniel.

I think it's a good idea with the way the game is going. Start with either Mann or Watson at 13 and the other at 14.
They both defend well in the middle. They can follow the runners around waiting for an offload.
Also give us an extra edge forward on the bench in Fitz (I assume).
A lot better than trying to play either of them at 5/8.

We are hearing nothing about the early training.
Dom Young is supposed to be joining the squad today.
Last year we were getting all those "be the player" videos and photos of sessions once a week or so, but we don't even know who is training this year, except that most of the senior guys aren't.

Doesn’t help that we let go of our better media managers in Nath Ryan. Probably will hear jacksh*t this year.

There was one clip a few months ago where Ryan was explaining something he was doing and he saw O'Brien glaring at him on the side and said "you'll like it".
I don't think O'Brien liked it. I think O'Brien would just like to talk a little bit about footy and nothing about the players.

Imagine Young coming out of that airconditioned hotel room and walking into the heat today and the last few days (as you said Billy) they may have to go easy on them, naah flog them lol..
It would probably have been smart to turn it off and leave the windows open to try to acclimatize a bit . Maybe he did that, i still think it will be hard for the two pomms at first.

I think OB's focus would be on getting the players ready.with minimal distractions and wouldnt surprise me if he has said no big media focus this pre season.

Only problem with that is the fans dont get any info and were all champing at the bit for information and news .

Just as we say that, photos of training go up on Knights site.
Several guys I don't recognise are training.
Dom Young is there - hard to miss.
Brayden Musgrove training after spending a year at Cessnock.
Cooper Jenkins is there.
Jack Johns has bulked up without getting fat.

There was a lot of irrelevant garbage released on the Knights social media pages to the point where I didn't even bother with it anymore, and this was when I was hearing about how c**p it was from other teams fans when he was here. Don't blame the office at all for going in a different and more importantly, a more professional and better direction.

Tbh for myself what I read on the Knights website/Newcastle Herald plus Tooheys podcast is more then enough. I think they need to make the "Our Town, Our Team" Podcast or whatever it was a more regular thing, maybe fortnightly or monthly which I thought was solid. During the off-season they also had recircling articles about important moments in the Knights history which was also pretty cool to look back on and read.

None of these stupid pointless videos we saw when Nath Ryan was here.

Happy with that, most of what is reported outside of the Newcastle Media is weeks out of date and usually wrong (so far this off-season anyway) so happy for the team to have a quiet off-season with O'Brien putting them through their paces and getting what he needs out of them fitness wise.
