2021 signing rumours

They were Green decisions though, and CBM will at least attest to Tuala being a mistake..

Strange that the new coach would cut Clifford. A halves rotation of Morgan, Hampton and Dinks is hardly getting the juices flowing I wouldn't have thought.
There is also the young asi fellow who has a fair few wraps. Maybe he sees a lot in him?

I thought Zammit was more of a scout than a list manager. He'd get guys in to the system then the footy department would spit them out.

You are correct. Billy is off the mark as usual. Zammit is a scout and had nothing to do with being a list/squad manager at the Cowboys.

Green won a premiership and I’ll forever thank him for that but he set this club back 5 years at a minimum.

Someone posted on the Cowboys forum a couple days how far the Cowboys have come (or gone backwards) compared to Penrith when it was only a couple years ago we were the two best junior sides in the country.

2015 we won the title and the club championship (NRL + NYC combined points tally), won the schoolboys national title and won QCup.

Our U20’s were by far and away the best 2 sides towards the end of the NYC comp, Kirwan won the national schoolboys title again in 2017 I believe and while 6-8 of the Penrith junior rep sides of 2017/18 were playing in a GF for Penrith yesterday we have a solid 5-6 FG/rep standard guys from those years playing for other NRL sides and the ones we have kept haven’t progressed which is solely down to Green.

It’s criminal what he did to the club and how he got away with it for so long without the media attention is astounding.

Not sure what the go is with Clifford as he definitely showed enough towards the backend of the season that there is talent and a FG half there if the forwards hold their own.

Clifford's defensive stats aren't very impressive.
His tackle efficiency this year is 80% and it looks like that is a big improvement on Last year.
Mason Lino was nearly 82% this year, and Hoy and Crossland both 83%.
Kurt Mann had over 88% tackle efficiency and was averaging nearly double the number of tackles as Clifford - but a good part of the was playing hooker for half the season.
Clifford is 6'1" and 95kg so he shouldn't have a problem defending, but it does look like he'll need to work on that.

Sounds like how I feel about Michael Hagan. Difference is probably Green had more work to do to gain the premiership.

All this stuff is probably just silly season rumours.
The knights don't give away anything for the last few years.
Tuala, Shibasaki, Frizzel, McCullough and even Green were all guys we found out about a day or two before they were doing interviews in Knights Jerseys.

I get a feeling there is a bit more to the Clifford one, there has been nothing said out of the organisation though.

Yeah, i'm feeling confident with Clifford. We haven't heard anything from the club, and have had no denials from Cows or Clifford.

It won't surprise me if Clifford is a direct replacement for Lino and will be Pearce's understudy.
I think Pearce would have been rested for maybe 5 games at least this year if we had a credible number 7 up our sleeve.
Pearce isn't getting any younger. Clifford could get half the season next year as a 7.

Hagan pretty much walked into a team that was ready to win a premiereship as shown the previous year minus Wok's mediorce past his used by date coaching.

At least Green/Parr and the Cowboys made moves to give Thurston help and make them better gearing them up for those 2015-2018 window years as opposed to Hagan who made the team worse but still made the finals in his last year there because of Joey's brilliance.

Probably because the Broncos got all the media attention with Seibold this time around, even though admittedly Green underachieved in the past with said roster/retention as well.

O’Brien says “there were measures in place to manage the salary cap.” Clifford would command decent money, interesting to know where his money would come from as club has stated previously that Glasby’s contract money will be directed towards acquiring another middle. Could Sione’s rumoured release to ESL be contingent upon club acquiring a quality 5/8? Lino, King and Moga have not be resigned, however there money would assist Ponga’s upgrade

Surely the thought of having Pearce covered by Clifford for possibly half the season is ridiculous, paying top dollar for a 7 to play half a season and considering an extension to him. So will we offer him $500k to play quarter a season?

Green was doing his thing long before Seibold arrived in town. He got well and truely looked after by the media.

Guerra, Ese Ese, Glasby, Lino and Moga are all gone freeing up a fair purse. We have money to spend on a 6 and a couple of forwards...
