2020 Pre Season and Trial Games

Imo Lino should be starting 5/8 he has it all and even his defence is ok , I think he leaves Mann in his wake as far as skill goes .

To'a running down Sivo and bringing him down 1 on 1 is the highlight of the tournament for me.
Most of the wingers in the NRL can't do that.

Soper-Lawler also did a very good job on Ferguson.
Mine too, that was superb

He was very good at skipping to the outside of his defender and creating overlaps. That is dangerous in the 13 man game as well.

Very excited for the trials. I’d hope game Vs roosters will be close to round 1 team maybe with just one spot up for grabs. Lino for me. Was always before Nines anyway. Not sure who has backline. Lee, Best, Shib and Hunt???

As good a result as hoped, couple wins, loss to favourites, no injuries at least serious, many impressive efforts from individuals, Gidley, Lino, Hoy, Saifiti, Sione, To’a. I am looking forward to trials and then comp without expecting too much

Bow down to your superior!!! Kings of the 9’s

The hammer showing what a prodigy he is. A 18 year old Inglis reincarnated.

Cowboys to follow tradition and win the 2021 premiership now.

There really isn’t anything you can take away from the 9’s. It’s a hit and giggle tournament.

It’s like auditioning for a test spot by playing 20/20... and of course Australian cricket have been that stupid in the past by having domestic 20/20 instead of first class cricket leading up to the summer tests.

If a coach is persuaded to play someone in FG because of what he did in the 9’s then he really shouldn’t be a FG coach.

I was saying this all last year. Lino is well ahead of Mann as a 5/8. Given some time at 5/8 in first grade I think he would be very handy. Victim of Browns endless chopping and changing.

I wasn't impressed by what Roberts-Davis showed.

Overall great tournament for us. Roll on the trials.

The exciting thing is that we now know that all the talk of the guys making great progress wasn't just the usual pre season hype.
Virtually every player has made genuine progress in the off season.
I was going to list the ones I think have improved - but it's all of them.
If Ponga, Watson, Dan Saifiti, Eseese, Fitz etc have made as much progress as Hoy, To'a, Jake Saifiti, Saulo and Momoisea to name just some of them, we are in for a good year.
Our reserve grade side was competitive with Parra's firstgrade side. What can our best players do?

Sasagi is the most interesting one.
Both him and Bradman Best are 18 - both born in 2001 - the year we won our last premiership.
Bradman has played a lot of footy and made all the rep sides and been coached by all sorts of high profile people in those rep sides - while Simi came to us as a raw talent and has only had about 10 games as far as I know (for us).
You could argue that they are our two most gifted natural athletes - both big, fast, strong and fit 18 year olds.
Best is ready for firstgrade - and no one even knows what position Simi should play yet. It's like he's a complete blank canvas, but clearly a guy who could be anything.

After the weekend seeing some juniors running around, imagine what our squad could look like in 5 years:

1. Ponga
2. ???
3. Best
4. Sasagi
5. Toa
6. Hoy
7. Crossland
8. JSaf
9. Brailey
10. DSaf
11. Momoisea
12. Barnett
13. Russell

14. Watson
15. Croker
16. Saulo
17. ???

I thought most of our forwards apart from saulo were pretty underwhelming with the ball.

Would be interesting to see what the stats say.

No Hunt/Lee. no Pearce, no Klemmer, no Pearce, no Klemmer, no Ese'ese, no Fitzy, no Guerra? Fair way off the money for mine mate.

Just figured some like Pearce and Guerra might have retired/moved on by that time. Mostly juniors I was thinking of I guess, but agree that the ones you mentioned would make up a stronger team.
