Toohey's News

The thing I really like about having tuala, sopa Lawler, Roberts Davis, etc here is if we have one of them spit the dummy and demand 500k a year we have other players in line to take their place... This probably wasn't the case last season with the moga injury when ramien was dropped.

There is always news from training to report. I want to know how Obi is changing the way training is conducted.

Each to their own.

The be-the-player episodes are really interesting. We might be involved to some extent in the offseason player transfer market (although not as much as other clubs). There's footy news all year round now. That said, I'm happy the cricket is on as I get a bit of footy overload during the year.

the trainer gives away nothing.
Ayoub gave away a few things, and the guy before him was very informative, but Cupples should go into politics because he is really good at speaking without telling you anything you don't already know.
The only thing he has said is that nearly everyone came back to training a lot fitter than they did last year.

I can't recall us having a squad in such good shape in terms of injuries leading into an off-season. It's a nice change to say the least.

1 Ponga 2 Lee 3 Best 4 Hunt 5 ????? 6 ????? 7 Pearce 13 Ese,ese 12 Barnett 11 Fitzy 10 Daniel 9 ????? 8 Klem 14 ????? 15 Guerra 16 Glasby 17 Jacob... Except for one wing the backs pick themselves I think . Imo 5 6 9 and 14 will be the spots up for grabs . It will be interesting to see who starts everywhere I wouldn't be surprised if Obrien pulls a couple of suprises on us .

I would be extremely suprised if Brailey didn't start at 9.
Also Glasby at 13.

My guess for round 1 is:

1. Ponga
2. Lee
3. Best
4. Hunt
5. Tuala
6. Crossland
7. Pearce
8. Klem
9. Brailey
10. DSaf
11. Fitz
12. Barnett
13. Glasby
14. Watson
15. Herman
16. JSaf
17. Saulo

1 Ponga 2 Lee 3 Best 4 Shibasaki 5 Hunt 6 Watson 7 Pearce 13 Ese,ese 12 Barnett 11 Fitzy 10 Daniel 9 Brailey 8 Klem 14 ????? 15 Guerra 16 Glasby 17 Jacob.. What about that side ...
I reckon he will be there somewhere but personally I couldn't find a spot for Sione except for, Sione to 3 and Best to 5.
Ive always thought he would be a big talent but I think we already have and could buy someone better at centre and b/row if im honest .
If Lino was fit I would have him at 14 I don't know enough about young Crossland to know how he would handle going into hooker if he needed to.
I like Ese,ese at lock and Glasby's experience on the bench with a young gun hopefully Jacob .

Guys who have been mentioned as training really well are Watson, Barnett, King, Sione, Best, Toa, Randall, but we won't know what the coach is thinking till the trials at the earliest.

I would think he would only make a few changes for round 1, but make gradual changes as the season goes on.

Just to comment on your 4, 5 and 6. I'm thinking that is how they will start, all things going well. This is based on a few comments from Obi so far. He has already stated that he would choose the better defender out of two otherwise equal players. A lot has been said about Shibasaki's defence against Latrell in the Broncos 15-10 win. Obi was impressed by that first hand. That means Hunt not getting a centre start, pushing him on to the right wing. In some ways that helps to give us the bigger body coming out of our end. Shouldn't be any concerns defensively either. Then Watson playing, and more importantly defending inside those two gives you another dependable tackler on that right side. It isn't a complete lack of threat with the ball either. Obi would take defensive dependability on the right knowing points will come elsewhere. I reckon you are on the money there.

I expect to see a few that have been here for a couple of years improve greatly under a good coach. Form under Brown means nothing to me.
