Kalyn Ponga

Brown has done a lot of things I didn't like, as a coach, but credit where it is due, he made a whole pre season all about one 19 year old kid with a handful of firstgrade games behind him, and the 19 year old kid thrived with about 20 million dollars of resources all focused on developing just him.
In short, no player in the history of Rugby League has had so much money and effort spent on him by a club as Ponga has had by the Knights, and certainly not a kid who mostly played under 20s the year before.
You can literally see Ponga learn a new skill one day, try it out in a game the next day, make a few tweaks, and have it perfected by the next game, so he is a brilliant student who justifies all the effort put into him, but it certainly isn't a one way street. The Knights, and Brown in particular, have put everything into developing Ponga.
If the kid goes on to be an immortal some day, his acceptance speech should be all about what Brown did to "hothouse" his talent.
In short, he owes us a few good years before he goes off somewhere else.

I might be abit melodramatic but Ponga seriously deserves better than us. Would you hold anything against Kalyn if he wanted to play for a team that is an actual premiership threat?
Imagine Ponga playing under the Melbourne Storm system this year instead he be a god lol

So Kalyn Ponga's current agent who is about to be fired and replaced by his dad wants him to get 1.5m in his next contract. What's the point of leaking it to the media so he can get some sort of commission?

Also as a starting point the figure isn't unreasonable. He will be in his prime years but it would be nice if it improved his goal kicking.

You know what without a great deal of thought ask them to make that a 5 year deal 1.1 million under the cap and $400k in 3rd parties and sprain a wrist signing that fast for mine.

Just read on nrl.com that apparently they want $6 million for the next four years. So that want him to be upgraded to $1.5 mill for the remaining two years on his contract and we would get him for an extra two years. Not sure what he is on now at a guess maybe $750,000 . So for the extra two years we would be paying him $2.25 mill a season.

Player managers are utter scum. Making a play for a big payout before Ponga pisses him off.

Basically what that manager guy did with the Matautia brothers without them/Knights knowing or consenting to it. Funny how Dogs fans rave about Klemmer wanting out but have selective memories of that and snatching Des as well.

fullbacks aren't worth 1.5 mill a year

This one maybe.

But can we or any club afford it out of their cap?

Maybe with tpa factored in. If kp's dad is about to take over managing, why would kp sign now.

I reckon this is his manager grabbing some free advertising off Ponga name before he loses him.
