Toohey's News

This is exactly what i want, upgrade him to 900k a yr from next yr onwards and with the tpa deals his got going im sure that would bring it up to 1.1-1.2m a yr.
Add 3 SOO and a test or two and his getting 1.1mil plus tpa deals.

The only thing i can see him want to leave for is a All Blacks jumper.

Yep, totes agree, especially if we keep on winning!

- Edrick likely to fill in at fullback against Souths with Tautau making his return on the wing. Klemmer almost certain to be rested and Ponga likely will be as well but final decision will be made Thursday.
- Knights not confident they'll have enough left over to make a serious bid for Pangai Jr with the priority being extensions for Ponga, Ramien and Saifiti. They are hoping Pangai again signs a 1-year extension so they can make a proper play for him next year.
- Chris Randall and Kiah Cooper have both been promoted to the full time squad.
- Dan Saifiti close to signing an extension after publicly declaring he isn't interested in talking to rival clubs. Pearce talks him up as one of the best young forwards in the comp and says it's a matter of when, not if, he'll play rep footy.

Kostjasyn seems to have turned Randall into a clone of himself - a half/hooker with a big motor. If he makes firstgrade this year he'll be a huge coaching success for Kosty.

Kiah Cooper has impressive numbers of tries and line breaks (10 games, 7 tries, 8 line breaks), but I can't help thinking Tom Hughes looked better last year and never got a break for some reason, but anyway, good for Kiah, he has a step on him that Ponga would be proud of.

The problem with Lee at fullback is that he is a completely different type of player to Ponga, so we'll have to change a lot of how we play. Watson and Maybe Mann could play like poor man's Ponga clones, which would allow us to keep the same structures, but with Lee in there it will mean our playmaking on the left side will all be down to Pearce.

Does it mention Levi's injury is the reason Watson won't play fb? I like the idea of Watson at hooker and Lee at fb.

think it would be more the fact that Brown doesnt want to change whats been working which i agree with. Keep Mann at 6 for a while and give Watson time at Hooker! Maybe Buhrer off the bench.

TPJ for 600 or 700k
Jake Saifiti for 250 or 300k

Both the same age.
Both with 50 or 60 firstgrade games.

I think Jake is down at the moment, but I'd give them both about a 50/50 chance to be a top 17 prop next year.

Turning Hess from an impact bench player that busts tackles into an 80 minute second rower was an interesting one by Greeney

Had to do it to justify the contract upgrade. Though it has definitely halted his progress. Still only 22 so plenty of time to turn it around and be a top backrower.

Are Knights one to talk though? We let players like Latrell, Tapine and Hudson Young go. Last 2 maybe not as high profile as Ponga, but there'll always be another team willing to snag another team's juniors. I'd include TPJ in that lot but not convinced he was a missed opportunity for us.

Yep, Cowboys have let some talent go but in that timeframe they were one of the top teams in the comp with already high profile players and were rewarding players who had been there and done it. Easier to justify young talent leaving at the time.

Lattrel, Cordner etc slipped through the Knights net when they could of easily walked into a mid to bottom table team that has been the Knights over the last decade. Not as easy to justify.

You win some and you lose some. Just like now the Cowboys May just gamble more and give Hamiso a bigger contract and hope he turns out as good as what people think he could be.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Today says Ponga and Herman going nowhere - calls it fake news.
Says Guerra has worked very hard to be back weeks early and will play some NSW cup tomorrow.
Says Star Toa will get one of the development spots we need to give out before June 30 - doesn't say who will get the other 2. Also tips Toa to make firstgrade by the end of the year.
Points out that we have the NSW under 16s hooker in Noah Naiglova, the NSW under 18s hooker in Mitch Black, and Luke Huth is a good chance to be NSW under 20s hooker (Huth was under 18s and schoolboys hooker in the past). I actually think Simi Sasagi, who played some hooker in under 18s last year, and kept Mitch Black on the bench often, is the best hooker prospect we have, although he plays a heap of other positions too.
