Danny Levi requests a release

We were getting smashed because we were predictable. 4 one outs then throw it to Pearce. My under 11's could move up and put pressure on them. 80 minutes of Watson/Levi will keep them guessing.

Taking a few steps out of dummy half to engage the markers or ruck defenders is fine, but as a few of pointed out it just needs to be done at the right time.

My pet hate is hookers that can’t pass of the ground, if the half wants to ball straight from the play the ball the hooker should be able to spear it straight from the ground, not pick it up then pass.

The main upturn in Levi’s game is he is running the ball

You point out that our dominant half in Pearce is struggling, yet cant see that his been given the ball with zero time to be able to keep the play in mind going as planed, even during general kicking Pearce is getting the ball and having to rush the kick away while getting belted.

If you can connect my view point on Levi "who's job is to get the ball from out of the ruck quickly and send it to the intended person"
With our attack being upto chit atm as well as our very good "on paper" forward pack being dominated the picture is in HD.

Billy brought up Bedsy style of play as a hooker,
Bedsy was a dominant hooker who would control the tempo of a game from the ruck, if we were on the front foot, bedsy would speed up the ruck service and take minimal steps out before passing but would run to keep the D second guessing.

If we were on the back foot, Bedsy would slow down the ruck service and take those steps out before passing to hold up the speed of the game so we could try regain our breath and get some momentum back.

Look at Cam Smith, like Bedsy, the speed of the game and control of it is all done by him, when the storm are on the back foot, he takes those same 1-2 step outs before passing to hold up the game.

Levi is doing this 1-2 step outs 2-3 times a set from the kick off which isnt game management, its poor awareness and selfish play.

@Billy

You posted similar the other week,
I think my reply to kurri sums up how and why hookers use the 1 2 step in games.

Funny I watched the Souths game the other week and both hookers took those few steps from the ruck prior to passing fairly often in the game.

Just picking the ball up and passing it from the ground is great in certain situations, but not 100% of the time.

It is a bit of a non issue to be honest.

IMO i think the defenders are up a lot quicker this year and the refs are not really policing the 10 as much so taking the two to three steps is not going to work unless you are on the front foot and have them back peddling. He just needs to pick his times better which i think he has done well the past two weeks.

I just watched the Parra and Warriors games and in the Parra game Levi did more passing straight from the ruck than he usually would, yet in the warriors game he did take a few steps or a short run from the ruck heaps of times throughout the game.

He hasn't really toned that aspect down over the past two weeks, his natural flow is to take those few steps. What did change over those past two weeks was our intensity starting the game and all the way through was much improved, which meant they were on the front foot a lot more and the D didn't get a chance to steam roll us.

Pining a portion of the blame for losses on a few steps from Levi at dummy half is laughable.

We must have watched different games I watched the titans game and then the warriors game and it was a massive difference . In the Warriors game he took those steps a couple of times in the titans game almost every ruck and in the warriors game his speed in passing was way up ...

Spot on Ethan. After the Tits someone got in his ear explaining the pressure he is putting his support runners under giving the opps those same 2-3 steps start.

As you say Rob, improved outta sight.

Just watched the Titans game through, and without meaning to be rude, your wrong!

Watch the game again and pay attention only to Levi. Then watch the last game and do the same. His service is near identical. The difference in the games, was the intent from the team as a whole.

Titans game:
1st try, Levi ran right to the line and passed to Watson. Watson had given up on the play and wasn't expecting to be passed to, drops the ball and they score. The pass was certainly catchable.
2nd try off of a dropped pass was Watson a dummy half passing and not Levi at all.
There was a pass from Levi to Glasby where one defender had gotten right up on Glasby and hit him with a high shot, commentators said should have been penalised.
3rd try from dropped pass was from SKD, Levi not even on the field, he came on with the stoppage of play from this try.
53rd minute when commentator said it was bad service from Levi, Esse well over runs the play the ball timing. Levi should have realised this and not passed. Both share the blame, but ball was recovered for no error.

His service in the Titans game was fine, what wasn't fine and cost us the game was out horrible line speed in D, our lack of intensity in general until about the 60th minute and an inability to convert chances to points. We crossed the line about 4 times and couldn't convert the chances.

No one got in his ear at at all after the titans game as his service is the same, he did lift his own intensity and go on more dummy half runs which really is the only change between the games for Levi personally.

I believe some get influenced by commentary. Aaginst the Titans the Fox commentator possibly Blocker said Levi's got to stop taking a couple of steps out of dummy half.

Blocker is the worst commentator on TV.
Every time he tries to be "insightful" he just talks rubbish.
Joey is easily the best. He notices things that no one else sees till much later, if ever, and it's very rare that he isn't spot on before anyone else has even had time to think about it.
How Roach gets paid to dribble on about nonsense is a mystery. If he points out something, he's nearly always wrong.

Nah mate don't agree with you at all.

Yeah was Blocker. Agree he has no idea.

Says Levi needs to stop those few steps from ruck. Team was attacking gold coast try line.

Next game, team attacking parra line, levi creates try by taking those few steps and committing the defender, gets lauded for it.

Same game (I believe) Levi takes those few steps out and then sees a chance to run, puts KP away to score under posts. Gets lauded for it.

But yeah, he has to stop this few steps so the ball can get to the receiver maybe 1 second earlier, maybe.

I know we all see things differently, but I can't see how Levi, Ponga, Fitz, Sione, Barnett or anyone else getting shade was doing anything other than what was expected from them.

For me, Pearce was putting in half arsed efforts, and as soon as he got serious, we started winning.
Ponga said after the Parra match that Pearce was the difference, and described him as "an angry little man" in that game (not sure if Pearce would be delighted with that description).
Pearce is our sole organiser and key player. If he has a big game against Canterbury, we'll probably win. If he doesn't, we'll probably lose.
Levi, Ponga, Watson, and even Klemmer can have a good or a bad game as individuals, and it won't make us or break us, but how Pearce goes, so goes the Knights.

Agree Billy. For whatever reason Pearce was running on standard up until the Parra game. Looked like someone had kicked his dog prior to that.
