Nathan Brown

I'd like to see a few of our good juniors that aren't going on with the job in the top grade get a gig at the Storm. What Bellamy does down there with plodders is unbelievable.

We have been there or thereabouts in every game.
This team could go on a winning streak if something clicked, or even if we just started getting lucky.

Yup the try that we let Penrith score before the dead goal line and the one against the dragons. Little luck things that don’t go our way

We have been our own worst enemy though it’s not as if teams are beating us or anything it’s more we are losing these games rather then the opponent winning.

That’s still on the coach AND players.

The bottom line is that Wests have a lot of money.
Every coach the Knights have ever had except for Bennett has been on minimum wage for a coach.
Brown is a cheapy too.
The next time we employ a coach, we should be flashing the cash and asking which top shelf coach wants it - not asking which has been or never was wants to work for minimum wage.

I can't remember much about Justin Holbrook.
I know he was understudy to Joey at the Knights for a few years and made his firstgrade debut with us, but for some reason I have it in my head that he played lower grades with Canterbury and Warren Ryan brought him to the Knights.
A couple of years training with Joey isn't a bad way to start your career, even if he only went on to play a handful of games.
I see he was assistant coach to Trent Robinson at the Roosters before getting the head coach role at St Helens, and has a 77% win record since becoming a head coach.

Demetriou is very unlucky not to already have a coaching gig. If there were chances of Brown going I’d be looking at him. Haven’t heard too much about O’Brian. The rest no thanks, Toovey at a pinch.

That's because the storm make it very clear from the outset nothing short of 100% commitment is accepted at Melbourne.

In all areas of the game.

They do not accept mediocrity. If you dont perform your going to know about it.

None of this, it's where we are at the minute.

That's not how good coaches go about their business.
In fact, it's how Brown tries to do things.
Good coaches like Bellamy, Bennett and Robinson convince players that they are genuinely trying to make the players the best they can be, and the players respond, because everyone actually wants to do well - especially guys who have got themselves up to NRL standard by their own efforts.

You know who responds well to being bossed, bullied and threatened with repercussions? - no one.
You know who responds well to having people take a genuine interest in them doing well? - everyone.

The Storm absolutely expect 100% commitment from their players from the junior level to the senior level. Bellamy details it all in his book and it’s why the Storm rarely ever are heard of being involved in off field incidents despite the advantage of being in an afl heartland.
Making new recruits who sign with the Storm get jobs before playing for them and expecting players to act like professionals and the little things like manners when they are in public is part of the package of playing for his successful system at the Storm.

There are a tonne of examples of Bellamy laying down the law when it has come to players.

When the unnamed Storm player (later was revealed to be Munster) was sent home after that issue on the **** in England instead of covering it up Bellamy basically said to him WTF are you doing you’re better then that even though Munster had helped the Storm win the GF and SOO for QLD.

No one is above the system

I would love for us to have a Melbourne like culture here. And I think Brown is after something similar. A culture where players put the team first.

But that doesn’t happen over night. It took them years with possibly four immortals at one point and also being over the cap at one stage too.

Melbourne can get away with telling their players how it is and they all fall in line because they want to be a part of it. There is not much to be apart of at Newcastle yet.

You don't get respect by demanding it - in fact, you get the opposite.
As the old saying goes, respect isn't given, it's earned.
The good coaches get respect by giving respect and by dealing with people in a fair and evenhanded way.
Players who have played under Bellamy, Bennett and Robinson don't tell stories about how they were bullied into performing - they tell stories about being given respect and opportunities.

May not get respect but you can still get results. Varying styles of leadership and the associated power plays (I.e reward, coercive, legitimate, reward) can still get the desired outcome. How long this can last for however is another question. Case and point my friend Jose Mourinho. Great success in years 1-2 in each major soccer club he’s managed and then fired in year 3. His coercive style doesn’t last long. I think the examples you’ve used all have expert and moral power that the players respect and it has given sustained success (that and no salary cap lol) Not even sure what Browns leadership style is? Certainly not expert. He’s not walked any talk.

Please highlight for me where I said Bellamy was disrespectful, bossing and bullying to players in my post?

Nowhere!
