Toohey's News

Toohey seemed pretty set on Mann at 9, not sure why because it seems super random.

8. Ese'ese (start as impact and the rest as lock replacement)
9. Mann
10. Klemmer
11. Fitz
12. Barnett (more effective than Guerra out wide imo)
13. Guerra

14. Levi
15. Dsaf
16. Glasby (Ese'ese/Barnett/Guerra are all better playmakers so I'd prefer him to be front row)
17. Gavet/Jsaf

18. Sione/Woolford/Buhrer

Yeah Nah

I know we don't have Slade but I think in Brownie head it will be something like

D Saffiti
Griffin
Klemmer
Fitzgibbon
S Matatutia
Guerra

Levi
Glasby
EseEse
Gavet

But I think Guerra should go into the second row and Sione to the bench and EseEse to lock. But depending on what happens in off Season I can see Levi dropped for Lino into 6 and watson to bench just for a kicker.

That said with Slade out I think we are looking at Woolford or the potential signing of Mann to do the hard yards with Levi off the bench but I would prefer Levi there and a utility coming off the bench picked on form. But I think Levi needs to do a real big off season.

How does Sione even make the side? Should be reserve grade and fill in as injury cover
Sione hits like a runaway buffalo.
If we are going to run over sides with power forward play next season - first picked will be Klemmer - second picked will be Sione.
I think everyone on this forum needs to have a run at Sione and a run at Buhrer, and then do a survey about who should be in the team - assuming Sione doesn't kill us all.

Is he one of the two best centres or two best edge forwards? If not, not sure what he's going to be doing off the bench.

Coach says no on the first question and time will tell on the second, but for me it's Guerra and Fitz.

Levi's attitude stinks, not quite as bad as Lealua, but not far off! Don't underestimate Woolford, maybe a year shy of full time first grade? Lino is right in the mix and I will be surprised if he is not in the top 17 each week! If we sign Mann I can see Levi released!

Based on current and likely signings we are kidding ourselves if we are not playing Levi or Woolford at 9 until Griff is back which is likely late 2019 or 2020. Most/very unlikely to sign another hooker with Klemmer and Mann at 28 & 29. If coach is a coach then Levi's supposed regular dummy spits/attitude should have been dealt with. Time to embrace the team we have and let go the attitude, the team is what we have not going to change much now except in dreams, barring serious injury it's 4-8 possibility.

Levi is in exactly the same position as Pearce was in at the Roosters - the coach wanting to upgrade, but keep him as a depth player.

Pearce is a hero for wanting to go to a team that wanted him.

Levi is some sort of comic book villain for wanting to do the same thing.

Players should look after their own best interests - because no one else is going to.

Still unproven if he can defend there with out hurting himself more than the opposition one thinf 10 tackles another 40.

Dead right there mate Clubs used to look after players and players looked after clubs (A Johns playing for less than he could get anywhere else , Lance Thompson taking a $200,000 pay cut so the Dragons could buy another player they wanted .) Things like that , but now its all about the Cash on both sides.
I wish it was like it used to be , but its not . It used to be a great sport , now its just a business .
I would like to keep Levi but I think that Griffin really showed him up last season and I think it embarrassed him how easily Griffin did it , and I think it made Brown think twice about Levi taking the next step up .
Before last season I thought Levi would be great and with us for good , but after watching him last season im not so sure now .

A Johns and many players at the Knights and other clubs made an absolute killing as a result of the super league war and were set up well beyond what was normal rugby league earnings at the time. He could easily afford to play at the Knights for a little less than he could take elsewhere. Each contract we still heard about how he may leave right up to his signing, I'm sure he drove the price as high as he could.

Different times really, I wonder if Johns would have made those same decisions if he wasn't so well looked after.

Maybe he could afford it but he still did it when he could have gone for the almighty dollar but didn't .

In his article yesterday Toohey mentioned that the local comp is looking into putting a Newcastle Rebels side into the reserve grade comp in 2020 as a feeder club for the Knights.
I think it was last year that the NRL said that they would expand both the Qld cup and NSW cup to 16 sides each, and all NRL sides would have 2 feeder clubs - so it looks like the Knights could have 2 based in Newcastle next year - one funded by the real NRL and local sponsers.
