Rumour: Knights to offload Jarrod Mullen as part of player clean-out

Stockwell played his first game in months this week, and we had a big win, the first in months.
It was probably the best reserve grade side we have put on the field this year. Only one junior in the side and a strong spine including Pearsall, Feeney and Freeman.

So let me get this straight, Hodkinson has done NOTHING this year, at all, barely led the team whatsoever and would cost just as much to clean out...but Mullen needs to go?

Swarzey, this is what gets me as well - Mullen is on big money, agreed - but not as much as Hodkinson and frankly, I don't think he's earned that sort of coin. We need a a game breaking half, not a plodder like Trent. Without Mullen's long kicking and passing game to support him, he's more like a $300K player. If St George really want him, I say let him go.

Yep if the Dragons are willing to take Hodkinson and the 650k id be fine with that!

Benji does what Hodkinson does and still has a little bit of flare about him for half the price!
Lamb will be ready in another 18mths.

People can complain all they want about Mullen and his salary, but to me the biggest issue is the fact that Gagai is on $600k. When Mullen is on the field (barely I know) his contribution to the team is a lot more influential in regards to being competitive team. As of recent, Gagai at centre really seems to just blend in a bit too much for my liking.

Agree, Gags on 575k is a absolute joke!

If he became a top 5 fullback then he would be worth it... but atm he isnt and now back at centre he will struggle again in defence and get man handled by almost every one the marks him.

yeep a couple of other highly paid stars should be shown the door too...have a ****in fortune to spend then but who would want to come to the knights?

We keep talking about throwing the young fellows in and ruining them. If they are good enough they are old enough. Look at Cleary and Cartwright for example, and Brooks and Moses. If it is going to take a year or to, so be it and let's get started. Like all sports, you improve the most when you play better competition, not back in the Cup. Young Taylor at the Titans is another that comes to mind.

As we move closer to the play offs Melbourne has been the steadiest team in the top four. The Sharks and Cowboys are getting a little wobbly so it will be interesting to see tonights Raiders v Storm match as an indication of best form.

The difference is those young players have three quarters of a first grade side around them. Our young guys are having to do it all, and it won't end well.

1000000% correct.

Blooding 2-3 in a nrl side is one thing,
Blooding 10+ in 1 season is outright madness.

Its all good and well drawing a line in the sand and starting a new era... but becoming humiliating will loss members, crowds, sponsors, players, and before we know it the club is gooooooone!

We all knew where this was going.

I always hoped i'd be pleasantly surprized and Brown would do the near impossible, but from day one we have been hurtling towards this cliff, and it isn't all bad, the new guy gets a clean sheet to work with - virtually no baggage.

It also doesn't help huge chunk of the salary is sitting on the sidelines in Snowy, McManus, Uate, and Stockwell.
Browny has gone about it the wrong way with Uate and Stockwell.
Both are still in our best 17.

This is what I can't cop also. If they're not gonna be here next year than Brown should look to get someone from within the club to get some football under their belt to groom as a replacement. But when guys like Elliot, Pat Matautia and Josh King who aren't up to playing First Grade and never will be are getting picked ahead of these 2 it's a completely pointless exercise.

Here's 1 for ya Tuamalolo in and Benji Marshall on a 1 yr contract into 5/8 , Tekina Vailea to centre and Mullen to F/B.

1 Mullen
2 Mamo/Ross
3 Tekina Vailea
4 Pete Matautia
5 Gagai
6 Marshall
7 Hodkinson
8 Tuamalolo
9 Levi
10 D. Saifiti
11 Sione
12 J.Saifiti/Paulipauli
13 Barnett

14 Freeman
15 Paulipauli/J.Saifiti
16 Shaun Lane
17 Mataora

Crazy idea Ethan. Tuamalolo will get +$1m a year which we don't have, and is strictly a #13. And Pete M must learn to tackle before playing anything. His read of defence and the famous running out of the line is deplorable.
