If due diligence has been carried out by Knights management there would be grounds for sacking Boyd without another cent being paid. He has failed to meet contractual requirements and attend sponsor events. He has partaken in anti-social behaviour and trashed a hotel room bringing the club into disrepute. And he has further failed to meet contractual requirements by leaving the country without seeking permission from the club. Additionally there is past anti-social behaviour that saw Boyd fined $50,000 by the Broncos for a toilet incident. Of course there is about as much chance of Gidley having done proper due diligence, issued warnings for contract violations, and documented everything as there is Boyd is actually suffering from depression.

They wouldn't sack Boyd, they don't have the balls to do that & they probably wouldn't anyway for the bad publicity of being the team that sacked the guy in all those feel good stories in the paper recently.

The more I think about it, the more I think Gidley needs to draw a line in the sand and announce he's been sacked for leaving the country without notifying us. It would send out the notice that we are no longer the soft touch joke of a club we have been the last few years under Hunter Sports.

Maybe we are overlooking the fact that some players might be very upset if he's treated "poorly" and not looked after. Of course its rubbish but if they perceive it that way it could be bad. Not good for team morale etc. This could get ugly unless we act quickly.

Some might also be upset about all the special treatment he's got while at the club! You're never going to PLEARE everyone.

It wouldn't be a good look for the club. As much as everyone would want that, he did come out and say he had depression- and so we sacked him because he went on a holiday as part of his rehab program? Yes he didnt notify us, and I agree there is a breach there. But if we sack him, we would be viewed as the ones who sacked the guy with depression cos he had to take leave?

There are arguments for and against, this one is a tricky one.

Oh Lord!

What a mess this is turnng out to be, and I really can't see us winning no matter what happens. I am getting more and more peeved about this holiday every day. All the rest of the injured players are expected to rock up on their crutches or in their moon boots, even Alex comes when he can, but he just buggars off without sayng boo. No doubt he will be a no show on Old boys day too. I would love to know the conditions of this "get out clause" and a grown man constantly having to follow the same coach all over the place really is a weird state of affairs.

Its a shame really, during the debarcle of that second half against Brisbane I watched a youtube clip of our best tries from last year and he was quite brilliant. They all were!!

Should start a petition to have him sacked. All in favour? "I"

Think a better approach would be to make it clear we won't sign up for memberships next year if they pay Boyd out to leave us, like some have said that money could potentially be the difference between resigning a young player or losing yhem

I'm in...

Contact him and advise him to return immediately. If he refuses it adds more weight to cut him loose. Who cares how it looks, we are not out to make people happy, were trying to run a footy club.

Its not just about the look, its more complicated than that. As an employer, the Knights have a duty of care and Boyd could file for unfair dismissal or whatever the procedures may be if he is sacked which would cost the Knights as well. Depends what the conditions are in his contract.

To reiterate what I wrote earlier if Gidley and co have done the right thing and issued appropriate warnings to Boyd for contract infringements then they would have a very strong case for termination. In fact it would be an open and shut case.

On public record we have Boyd breaking his Newcastle Knights contract and NRL code of conduct by:

* Not attending promotional events.
* Trashing a hotel room.
* Being rude to a female journalist.
* Leaving the country without permission from the club.

Additionally there is a strong history of anti-social behaviour by Boyd at previous clubs.

Now if Gidley and the board have done the right thing, that is issued Boyd with an infringement notice each time he broke his contract and NRL code of conduct, and stated that further action would be taken in the event of further breaches then they could sack him today without risk of any repercussions. But that is a big if.

This isn't American sports, you can't trade players unless they both agree.

Because they know there would be a riot.

I never said or indicated anywhere about swapping a player against his will! I'm talking two way negotiations.

Try not to put words in my mouth thanks mate!

Either way at the conclusion of this, Boyd, his manager and Bennett are going to find a way to make us seem as though we're the bad guys in this situation if we aren't already. We can't really win. We're screwed it seems. It's either sack Boyd and be an arrogant club that sacks players suffering from a mental illness or pay someone who doesn't want to be here when the money could go to elsewhere and to juniors who actually have pride in the club and its culture.

So thank you to Bennett, Boyd and co. for making this the worst 2 years (minus 2013) in the clubs history. Have fun trashing the Broncos.
