Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley cups 2026

No footage yet of the AJ cup game, but I looked at the try Jazz Schumacher scored in LD again and it really was impressive. He went to dummy half about 10 metres out and ran straight at middle forwards who stopped him just before the line, but he spun out of the tackle of those two and got low...

Jazz Schumacher has Tommy Starling vibes - little fella who is a ball of muscle - that dummy half try from 10 out was vintage Starling - just too strong to stop.

It's interesting they are playing all the cross conference games in round 1, and the two traditionally strongest teams - Newcastle and Wollongong - play each other. You'd have to think we'll be favourites for the minor premiership in both grades if we win today.

2026 Knights Coaching and Football Staff

https://www.newcastleherald.com.au/story/9164120/alex-mckinnon-returns-to-knights-in-recruitment-role/ Article says Chris James has recruited Alex McKinnon and Andrew Ryan in junior identification and recruitment roles. Both have been great at that in the past for us.

    The pre-season 2026 thread

Holbrook ends his interview by saying the first trial will be about rewarding the young players. Maybe that means he will give plenty of game time to guys who have done the whole pre-season like Votano, Latu, Hunt, McCarthy, Sullivan, Crouch, De Courcey, Manuleleua, Arthur, Hopwood, ESL, Graham...

    The pre-season 2026 thread

I forgot about Gamble. An article a month or so ago pretty much said Holbrook has told him he needs to train to be a utility. I think he'll make the 19 every week if he can do a spell at lock, hooker, halves to a reasonable level. Because of that, I think they'll try him out as lock and hooker...

    Buzz has retired

He'll be back next week. I've never seen one of his "scoops" turning out correct. Right on brand for him to retire and even that turns out to be wrong.

Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley cups 2026

All the games for round one of AJ and LD games this weekend are marked to have commentary - hopefully we will get commentary for all games this year - not that it's always useful - some of those guys get the wrong player more often than not. I can barely pick anyone out these days, but I'd do...

    The pre-season 2026 thread

Does anyone know if Adam Blair is still working with our pathways? Pretty sure POS brought him over for the 2025 season and he was working with firstgrade last pre-season - but no sign of him this year. I think he was a good influence on McEwen, ESL, Manuleleua, Hopwood, Crouch etc. Linked in...

    The pre-season 2026 thread

Crouch is 3 years older than Hopwood I think. I don't think he'll be as good as Hopwood over time, but his numbers last year in reserve grade were much better. Both are big props who have made plenty of NSW junior sides. Crouch looks to have had a very good pre-season - looks much fitter.
