Round 3 - Knights vs Dragons - 6:15pm Sunday 19 July - McDonald Jones Stadium

Been pleasantly surprised by Spain. Think she looks very comfortable as a ballplayer. Contact/physicality is a weakness but that's probably unavoidable at her size. Can see why she was apparently a gun touch footy player.

It was a kick in the guts when she left but We look so much freer as a team without Southwell so far this year.
We used to almost go through motions to let her do her thing but I think the team has found a good mix
Dibb and especially Roache look free and Spain is what we have needed at the back since Tamika left and Olivia is showing all her class with ball play and strategic running

Good effort to get 18-0 up, hopefully have some killer instinct to keep it up for big win

Right back at the start of last season of NSW cup Spain was playing centre beside Tess Stains and drew the defence and put Stains away to score try after try.
She wasn't physical enough then, but from her first game she always had those touch footy skills.

There’s a little bit of Upton about her, similar physique, running style and ability to ball play a bit

Spain isn't the best athlete bit yeah very skillful and she understands how to find & use space. Very good hands. She's looked better at 1 than anyone else we've tried there since Tamika left and it's seeming weird that she wasn't preferred to others. It's a common fallacy in NBA scouting that players whose game is built around athleticism/physicality have a "higher ceiling" than those who build their game around skill & craft, maybe this is an example of that. "Good at the sport" often a weirdly underrated trait lol.

  • Tess Staines 7'
  • Tess Staines 12'
  • Aaliyah Paki 20'
  • Tyla Brown 25'
  • Tess Staines 30'
  • Lucy Spain 37'
  • Tess Staines 46'
That left edge of Fane Finau, Lucy Spain and Tess Staines is deadly.
Lucy Spain is the Matt Gidley of HVN cup - she just draws the defence and pops the perfect pass to Staines time after time, and Staines is the fastest on the field by a long way, so doesn't get run down.

Post I made after round 2 of reserve grade last year - after Tess Stains had scored 8 tries in 2 weeks.
