Could be our best team however no way hodgson starts at 1 given he wouldnt have played for 9 months prior

Best isn’t and never will be a fullback in first grade. Not only is he a horrid defender but he can’t pass or ball play to save his life. He’d probably break his ankles coming down from catching a high ball.

Best is built low to the ground and would have all sorts of ankle and hamstring problems playing fullback in his current body shape. Even then he wouldn't have the ball skills to be a modern day fullback.
 
Could we move him one spot in as an edge backrower? It’d go with AOBs method of playing players out of position. He’d get his hands on the ball more and wouldn’t be as tempted to throw a flick pass that isn’t on
 
Best has an almost identical build to Wombat Eadie - one of the all time great fullbacks.
He'd even play fullback in the same style I think - a missile charging through the line.
Pity 1970s style wouldn't work today.

Spookily, I just looked at Eadie's profile to see what size he is and he's from Woy Woy - the same place as Best.
 
I reckon given the season Best has had, he will be training at both centre and wing like all the other squad outside backs have to. He gets picked where he gets picked.

I can go look it up if I've misremembered - but I think I suggested that Best is more of a Toa-style winger than a centre a few months ago, and you and the majority of the forum told me I had no idea what I was talking about.

This is the second time this week you've suggested he might end up on the wing. Curious what you've seen that's changed your opinion?

70s style would definitely work. All over the ad line as quick as possible, plenty of passes. The knights would barely have a clue about playing that type of footy or would drop it more then hold it.

I don’t remember saying that but I take it back if I did.

I think he’s just gone from “guaranteed starter” to “has to take what he can get”. And he’s not a value-add at centre, can’t run lines well, and we can’t get him into space. He’ll run into space all the time if he’s on kick returns.

I agree with your most recent comments - was excited for him coming through, but has just never really kicked on.
 
Best is a concern but I think people forget that he's only just turned 21. Yeah he's not coming along as well as we hoped but there's obviously been an attitude problem across the whole playing group this year, so it's obviously not an environment to thrive in at the moment. I'm not convinced having him on the wing is any better either. He's shown ability at centre with room to move

I am far more concerned about Gagai personally.
 
I don’t think I actually expressed an opinion on him moving to wing reading that, outside of his career attacking output at centre being better than most seem to think.

But he’s definitely a liability making decisions in defence at centre though and gee he has blown some opportunities this year with wrong options.

Promoting two specialist centres to the top 30 when he and Gagai are on the books says it all. He’ll be fighting for whatever spot he can get, and honestly wingers are just as if not more important than centre in the modern game anyway. Let’s see how he goes if he gets to wind up like Sivo.
