Toohey's News

So glad cupples is gone...I really do believe he played a big part in our huge injury toll and reoccurring injuries.
It's hard to determine the exact reason why. He seemed to get them recovered quickly but couldn't keep them peak. I still think they spend too much time in the gym. There is a difference between being strong and just heavy. My sensei weighed 80kgs but had a throw weight of over 300kg. Muscle weight isn't all what it's hyped up to be.

Our injury toll over the last few seasons has been horrific and also recurring injuries, the buck needs to stop with someone.. maybe it's not Cupples fault, but it's a good sign we are trying to do something about it and not settle for mediocrity.

My sensei was a rat and called the four of us after renaissance period artists

Knights have signed a 17 year old Kiwi for under 19s named Jayden Harris. He is the cousin of James Fischer-Harris and a lot of other clubs were interested. Plays second row. Toohey says he joins a "very strong" under 19s squad. The under 19s this year would have many of the players that were in our record breaking under 16s squad in 2019, which had most of the forwards make the NSW side and had the best defence stats in under 16s history, so it should be a quality pack.

Toohey thinks Bedsy should do some coaching next year.

Most of the column is about Bennett and saying his time at the Knights wasn't so bad. Points out that many of the current players came through the junior system set up by Bennett and Graham Murray. Says that professional coaching and support staff had not been seen for juniors before they set it up.

Funny comment about the junior reps team. Toohey must have no idea. A lot of people will soon find out that 13 of the 17 players that played in that 2019 HM Grand final have moved onto other clubs how ridiculous is that. Why are the knights not making an effort to keep there players. Or is it a culture issue. Thank God Scott Dureau left he a good reason most of them players left.

Don't know if it's sad that all those guys moved on, or good that they are all getting offers to play for other clubs.
It was a good team to watch.

Lachlan Crouch signed at Cronulla as well a 3 year deal. There are heaps more but can’t name yet as the singings haven’t been made public but pretty disappointing when you look at other clubs like Manly Penrith Rabbits. They have a fair decent life of junior rep boys. I hope them names above don’t come back and haunt the knights in years to come.

That's disappointing losing that many players from one good side like the 2019 Hm grand final side, hopefully some of them come back to the Knights in the future.

Pearce uncertainty could be a big distraction this off season.

Club is "likely" to find a spot for Jack Johns.

Tex Hoy is hopeful still and hasn't looked elsewhere. His manager says they'll need an answer in the next 2 or 3 weeks - with the pre season starting in a month.

Is he being used suggestively by the club? Super League final tomorrow, Catalans may make a move soon after that.

What's the game plan though? Clune to the halves or Ponga? Would have to be Clune at this stage, we don't have another fullback, I dont think Hodgeson would be ready and if end up resigning Hoy and playing him there I think I'll skip next season.

I don't know, but I'm guessing they'd already have a plan for the extra 600 to spend, if that's what they are indeed thinking. It is just rare for speculation like this to be continually coming from the local rag. Is it the Knights working woth Toohey to keep the story bubbling, or is Toohey protesting a bit about the lack of content he is being given from the club? He has newspaper space to fill one way or another.

Toohey's first part of his season review.

The 8 positives he listed;
1 Back to back semi finals
2 win over Manly with Crossland, Watson and Hoy in the spine and Turbo in red hot form before the game.
3 The Safs
4 Brails
5 Clifford signing and form
6 being able to win ugly
7 bonding of the squad in camp in Queensland
8 the rise of Brodie Jones

I think he covered just about everything, but maybe one positive I would add is that our coach has shown signs of throwing off the rookie tag and putting his own stamp on the side.

My word Billy praising the coach will get you into hot water with the naysayers! 😗🤬🤬🤬
I'll commend Obi for building some mental toughness in the group.. we certainly look like a different side in that regard.. our attack stinks though.. but trying to build some mental toughness in this squad surely has to be harder than getting our attack running better so I am optimistic for the year.
