2020 State of Origin Series

I watched a documentary on the NSW series win last week. Was pretty good and got me thinking about who I’d pick if it was on as normal. This is where I landed. Obviously a bit biased on Best but he seems to be one of those special young players that can be thrust into the spotlight and still perform. Plus, it’s a good time to blood young talent around a solid and winning core group. He would score and perform well for sure.

1. Teddy
2. Best
3. Wighton
4. Turbo
5. Fergo
6. Keary
7. Cleary
8. Klemmer
9. Cook
10. Saifiti
11. Frizzel
12. Cordner
13. Trbojevic
14. Radley
15. Finucane
16. Murray
17. Payne Haas

Edit: Radley into 14 for Vaughn!

Based on last nights game, I'd swap Payne Haas for Jake :dude:

NSW's forward depth is pretty nuts when you think about it, guys like Graham, Critchon, Vaughn, Haas potentially missing out.

If a guy like Cordner who has had injury issues in the past struggles later on with them you wouldn't think twice about replacing him with all the depth available.

Graham should be first backrower picked off we are being serious and he isn’t injured.

Haas will get in because of media hype. He is overrated and a stat merchant.

Ferguson should never be anywhere near a nsw jersey anymore. His having a bit of a slump and that pass yesty was just abysmal.

I wouldn't have a problem with going with Mansour/Addo Carr so far, but with injuries the depth of the backs could get thin quicker.

O'brien is talking up Mann as a utility for SOO.
Saying he could play any position, which I suppose is true.

Fittler now saying Klemmer is still a chance and he is only picking "certainties" for the trainon squad - which must mean DSaf is a certainty.

So interestingly, Lee & Hunt got picked in the QLD squad which I didn't really expect, but Mann got left out who I thought would have got a run for sure.

Hard to imagine Hunt or Lee making the final team, but good for them to be recognised.

Also doing the rounds atm from Paul Kent is that Klemmer wasn't picked for being a 'sour tart' during origin 3 last year. Surprised if that's was true as Klemmer always struck me as a silent leader type of character. Oh well, would be a shame if they don't make up, I think most people agree knights fan or not he should be one of the first picked. Also moose not being picked for qld is absurd to me. I'm NSW through and through but I love him as a player, great antagonist and bleeds maroon, will be a shame to not see him and Klemmer at each other this year.

Coates might be injured.
Hunt is the only winger on the extended bench, but they could bring in anyone they want, so Lee still a chance.

Saifiti definitely belongs in Origin, him and Paulo were great, things went south with them off, Hass was ordinary and I think they needed another prop on the bench. They should recall Klemmer.

Saifiti and Paulo were great. Haas is so overrated it isn’t funny. Shouldn’t be anywhere near origin but will get a free ride like cordner for the rest of his career.

Halves were ordinary and we got punished for playing two guys at centre that aren’t centres. Blows my mind that Lomax didn’t get selected.

Considering the strength of the opposition, I think that was a career best game for DSaf. He was very strong in attack and defence.
Papali was stopped in his tracks every time he came to Saifiti.
If you were picking the Australian side now, DSaf would be in.
