Being reported that if Manly signs Foran, then Josh Schuster may be looking for a release. Nephew of Knights old boy John Schuster and tipped to be a future superstar, at 6.

Might be a play here to offer him the 6 for next season and beyond.

Personally, I'm not seeing a lot from Crossland or Hoy being the long term 6. I get they haven't been given much of a shot there either but just spitballing.

OB can't be looking to go in to next season with Mann back at 6 surely. We really need a young future star at 6 on cheaper coin to electrify the attack.

I'd be very happy for the club to look at Schuster, but I wouldn't be discard Tex and Crossland just yet, I think they both have a lot to offer in the future.

With Brailey playing 80 minutes and having Watson, Mann, Hoy, and Crossland on the books I don't think another 5/8 is a priority unfortunately.

How do we have 5/8 covered?

We have spent this year with various 5/8's, Mann there only because we can't find a spot elsewhere for him, now Lino is keeping him out of the 6 and he has moved Randall from the 9 after a strong performance, just to slot him in somewhere. He is the new Sione. Pushing players out of position so fit him in.

5/8 for next year is still a big ?

When Brailey returns and takes the hooker position, OB is going to have to put Mann somewhere and he likes starting him. So where? Centre, 5/8 again?

With respect you couldn't be more wrong, Mann wasn't a traditional 5/8th in any sense but he was killing it and hugely responsible for more than a few of our wins, there is a reason why he'll be the bench utility for qld this year and ask any expert and they'll sing Mann's praises.

I agree he isn't a 5/8th he'll be a great 14 for us going forward.

But to say Lino who was going to be hooked last week for Hoy is keeping Mann out is laughable.

Mann is at 9 because we are out of 9's except for a 2 game rookie.

Regarding Sione his been great since his been moved from centre and worked on not knocking himself senseless every week, but at centre he was crap in attack, and invented the cattledog rush where he ran out of the line leaving his poor winger with a 15 metre gap to defend frequently - credit to him his turned into a great backrower for us.

Ponga, Pearce, Klemmer, Dan and Mann will always be our first 5 players picked in that order whilst all will fit, like him or not and his bloody unorthordox which is why people don't get him but his a terrific footy player and a wonderful Mr fixit.

Lino keeping Mann out of the 6 indeed, I am sure his a nice kid, but zero chance he is in our squad next year.

5/8 can be anything the coach wants it to be, from a guy that plays like a lock forward to a guy that plays like a halfback to a guy that plays like a fullback.
O'Brien seems to want a running 5/8 - like Hoy playing like a fullback in the line.
If we lose Lino, a backup halfback is the shortage we might need to fill, but Crossland and Searle are both very inexperienced halfbacks.

Wade Graham playing 5/8th for the Sharks this weekend.

I don't get people's fascination with a traditional 5/8th, Brailey can help with kicking when his back and Ponga's a bloody 5/8th anyway, if Pearce played to even half his paycheque it shouldnt be an issue.

I pretty much agree with all of this. Lino isn't keeping him out of the 6 long term, but he was set to be dropped until Hoy got injured, and played well enough that he kept Mann from the 6 for the Titans game, which is what I meant by keeping him from the 6. If Lino had a stinker, he would be dropped, Mann at 6, and Randall at 9.

Pearce will come good. It sucks he’s not playing the best, but he’s worth more than the 80 minutes each week to the team. Again he’s had a ton of different halves. Still need to sort that short kicking game however

If Pearce can put in 4 of his best, starting next week, all will be forgiven.
I'd be happy for him to get a pay rise in fact.

I always think about the Roosters dumping Pearce and what happened after. Fair enough Cronk is one of the greats. But they knew what they needed to win and it wasn’t coming from Pearce.

There is no doubting however that he’s helped improved us out of sight. Time will tell if that will get us to a Premiership!

He’s doing too much. Really

Bringing in Tedesco amongst other players helps, without him there’s no premiereship

Jack Cogger is without a club next year.
He is 23 with 41 firstgrade games - compared to Lino who is 26 with 34 firstgrade games.
Not sure that we need a 200k journeyman halfback as a backup, but if we do, i'd rather Cogger than Lino because Cogger has more improvement in him.
