Can't see how we win this one. Just get through without injury would be great.

Toohey on Herald is saying Ponga to be rested now that our finals berth is in the bag.

Part of me thinks great, we rely on him too much to generate our attack and this will give Pearce/Lino a chance to work without the Ponga net.

Another part thinks we may as well rest anyone else we can if this is the game we are resting players in.
 
If we rest all the guys carrying injuries the first guy rested would be Pearce and the second would be Barnett.
Frankly, If Hoy, Lino, Randall and Crossland were given the keys to the car and told to do their best, they might surprise us all.
All those guys would be out to make a name for themselves and would play the game of their lives against the Roosters, who would be just trying to cruise through the game without injuries.

The coach is probably thinking about putting the best team in the best condition possible on the field for the first final, which is a great mindset. It would be a miracle if we won 4 finals games in a row and took out the title, but we certainly won't if we limp into the finals with a busted squad to make up the numbers. The whole point of making the finals is to show up on the day that counts.
 
we should be doing everything we can to get 5th spot and the chance to play cronulla at home again come week 1. dont like the idea of resting players against a team should we beat se us only 1 point ehind them.
 
Ponga's a pretty competitive guy i would think he would not be happy if the coach wanted to rest him . I reckon he will want to play every game , i know i would in his position busted nose or not .
 
Assuming the coach gets his way and Ponga is rested...

I'd like to see Starford Toa get the gig (ahead of Hoy) with Lee coming back on the wing - I know the full back role is a major step up and it would be a bit of a baptism of fire against the Roosters but I think he has handled his time in first grade very well so far and doesn't seem to be overawed by the situation.

Will be interesting to see the team lists on Tuesday...
 
At this time of year, O'Brien has for the last 10 years been making plans to win the finals.
Now that we are locked in for a 5-8 position (with a slight chance at top 4), I think that every decision he makes will be about winning a knock out game 4 weeks from now. He will be trying to get our best players fit and in form for a game on the 4th or 5th of October. He won't care who we are playing. We'll have to beat them all to win the title.

He did say that he is looking at the long road so I think he should rest as many as he can in this game.

I'm ok with this team. I would like to see what Hoy does at fullback for a whole game given he'd be itching to play again. It's been mentioned previously that Hunt's workload had gone through the roof this season with a lot of extra tough carries so the break will freshen him up and Barney looked busted when he came off last week so could do with the break.
The danger is we get thumped which would be a bit of a disaster for the mindset leading into the finals but hopefully not........

Two games to rectify any thumping. Not that I'm expecting one, I think the forwards will be up for it.

I expect a solid win to the Roosters. Our forwards will go ok, but their attack is going to be too good for us I think.

Our attack without Ponga will struggle.

Article about the Knights supporting the appeal for Joel Dark and family.

I suspect something will happen or be said at the game.

Captain of the Roosters Boyd Cordner is a cousin of Dark.

Pheonix Crossland was a team mate in our under 16s and they were also both in the NSW under 16s pathways squad.

Brodie Jones and Pasami Saulo played with his older brother all through the grades up to reserve grade in 2018, and I remember an article years ago where Brodie Jones, Tom Starling and Kurtis Dark described each other as the best of friends, on and off the field.

That’s a team that should match the Roosters, if we’re being deadset. The Roosters attack will probably be a bit too good for us in the end, but that shouldn’t stop it from being a close game. A thumping would just send us crashing back to square one and would be majorly disappointing heading into finals.
 
I think we will get a bit of a touch up my worry is the young guys will be trying too hard to win. When Pearce tries toom hard his game isnt as good hope it doesnt happen to them . Not worried about this game as long as we smash the opposition in the next couple .

With 5 or 6 players that would be playing reserve grade if we had all our players in if were being deadset that team shouldnt get anywhere near the roosters .
