Tim Glasby announces his retirement

Before this season I thought we needed to get him off the books before next year because his form was dropping fast at the end of last year and I thought he'd be a passenger this year and useless next year, but up till recently he'd found a new lease of life and was playing as good as he has for us.
But medical retirement seems a good deal for us and him. He gets his money and we get some salary cap space next year.
I've heard the name Luke Yates come up a few times recently, and he is not getting any games in England and has played 28 ESL games since we last saw him.

It's interesting that Sione's concussions which were thought to be very serious at the time, and again after it happened two weeks ago were only 'not as bad as initially reported, and migraines' or something along those lines but Glasby's who hadn't gotten as much attention is more serious.

and same day we see an article that Jacob is about to re sign - like we suddenly have money or something.

Jacob was always going to re-sign regardless

He even went on record saying there was zero chance he wasn’t playing alongside his brother and he told his manager not to bother with other offers.

That said I hope we’re smart and don’t fall into old habits when it comes to Watson.

I doubt we will. Randall and Hoy could slot in at 14 quite easily. Can’t see us paying big coin for Watson at this point; at least, not like the coin it apparently took to get him here initially.

So with Jacob about to sign next week, we have for next year;

Signed middle forwards
Klemmer
DSaf
JSaf
Saulo
Barnett

Off contract middle forwards
Josh King
Matt Croker

promising young middles
Brandon Russell - Qld under 20s lock forward who trained with firstgrade this year and got a run in one trial
Christian Ma'anaima and Daniel Ticehurst - both giant props who turn 21 next year and were junior Kiwis in 2019 - both got a run in the trial where we used everyone.
Jaron Purcell - lock forward who is the same age as Bradman Best and has consistantly won awards as our best player over Bradman Best in under 16s and under 18s. A very similar style player to Glasby. Got a run in a trial.

We also have Jirah Momoisea signed for another 2 years. He has been a big prop for the last few years but this year has slimmed down and is looking good as a second row. He has been one of our strongest players in the gym for a few years and is a big guy - 193cm and 109kg - bigger than Eseese and Glasby. With Frizzel, Fitz, Sione and possibly Jones in the second row next year, Momo will be very unlikely to get a firstgrade spot as a second row, but if he goes back to prop, he might be close to a bench spot right now.

Fitz was also a prop all through the juniors and I think his defence is now good enough that he could play prop in firstgrade.

I
I'd be surprised if we were not aware of this decision beforehand, I'd rather look at a couple of top class strike centers than another prop tbh.
I don’t mind best and Tuala at center to be honest. If anything I wouldn’t mind some athletic wingers in the mould of Coates, vunivalu, etc. but I really would like a bit of impact in the front row - a TPJ style player.

If Glasby is medically retired, he’ll follow Kostjasyn and Slade as former Storm players who suffered career-ending injuries at the Knights.
