Herman Ese Ese to the Titans in 2021

Take it with a grain of salt.
Personally im not too fussed.
Id prefer to keep Jacob.
Ese's effort when he dropped the ball the other week and didnt dive on it or chase the opponent that picked it up really ground my gears.
Ese can be great in attack, sometimes lazy in D.

We have to lose a few of the high paid forwards if we are giving Ponga and Pearce a million a year.
I think we have at least 5 or 6 young middle forwards coming through, so losing one isn't a big deal.
In a perfect world we'd keep all the good players and stack our reserves with firstgrade quality players as well, but the salary cap means you can afford about 20 proven firstgraders and 10 cheap guys you hope can improve a lot.

Herman is probably the most likely to be let go for reasons that others on here have already raised. I like him, but it's not an area of the squad that we need to being paying overs for. If he can get a good contract at the Titans, good luck to him.

If we are loosing Ese’ese and Guerra and likely letting McCoullough, Moga, Lino, King go, is Fritz our only buy with the other spot in top 30 covered by young (u20’s) or cheap potentials. Still a good side with the 25 or so kept and allows those young players to develop in reserves next season. Those potentially going would be unlikely to get a run in 1sts when you look at our current 17 plus Brailey, Barnett, Watson, Best and Fritz.

Gotta love the dart throwing journalism on 360 sometimes

Titans is probably just a guess by someone, but because he gets mentioned whenever clubs are talking about recruits, he must be getting shopped around you would think, even if it's just his manager throwing his name around.

You would have to think Ese would be leaving begrudgingly. He’ll know the smart thing to do would be to take the cash, but he’ll also know he’s walking away from potential short-medium term premiers for almost guaranteed spoons.

If he had a smart agent he would realise the Titans aren't on the up any time soon and while he does have a chance to earn potentially double what he's on for that brief period playing for a garbage team also could hurt his value as well.

Unless it comes from the Knights or Baz it's not really a story. Especially considering O'Brien contacted him and told him he was apart of his plans going forward.

In fairness, pretty sure Herman left Broncos where they had a quality squad with Bennett in charge, and we were 2-3 spoons in. He might have seen our potential, but we certainly paid overs to pry him from Brisbane. This is exactly the same situation IMO. Titans still have some serious rebuilding to do, but Herman could really help them if they are to have an upward trend.

Bennett probably didn’t know who Herman was and was only in premiership window mode so wasn’t surprised to see Herman amongst other forwards leaving to keep the old heads around.

Think Herman is still young enough to go to a new club for a year or two and look at options including returning to Knights after Glasby is done.
Titans don’t seem to succeed no matter who they sign, have to pay overs to attract then put up with under performing

We have actually signed Toni Mataele a young backrower from the Eels for 2021 to 2023.

If we do not renew TRD, there will be a top 30 spot available to sign a cheap outside back.

Herman’s got a house here so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him knuckle down and earn another contract, but we can also afford to lose him as well. He may want to leave to chase a longer-term deal but Obi seems to like him. We’ll wait and see.

Ese'ese advised surplus to Club needs going forward so it would surprise his management are in talks with the Titans, Doggies, Saints and Sharkies with very limited future for Fifita.

Toni Mataele played under 16s for NSW 2 years ago alongside knights player Tom Cant. I thought Tom was NSWs best forward in that game.
I haven't seen how Toni went last year, so maybe he has improved a lot.
We also have second rowers Harry Croker and Cooper Jenkins who are a year older and played for NSW at 16s and 18s level, and also Nesta Watene who has played for Qld - so we seem pretty good for 18-19 year old second rowers.

Where did you hear that Ese’ese has be told his surplus to club needs?

The usual Foxtel chatter. I think it is logical with Barney, Fitzy back, Jones unable to get ba start and bright young prospects coming through.

We just can't keep them all alas.
