2020 NSW Cup

Tex Hoy at 5/8 is a promising sign.
Not for Baydon Searle.
I've always liked Hoy at 5/8 because he has a bit of X factor about him, but Searle now finds himself behind Hoy, Crossland and Lino after finishing last year as our starting halfback in NSW cup.
If any other club offered him a spot in reserve grade, he should probably go for his career prospects.

Hypothetically Bill, if Crossland and Hoy were both fit and had 5 games each under their belt at 5/8, who do you put in next to Pearce?

I see it as a matter of kicking or running and given we have Pearce, maybe the running is preferred, so Hoy? The reserves halves is definitely becoming a headache. Good for the coaches, bad for those poor lads that aren’t guaranteed a spot now.

Can't say until we see how much progress Crossland has made. He looks a lot more mature than he did a year ago, and so does Hoy. We've seen the improvement in Hoy, but Crossland hasn't had a chance yet.

Lino and King showed their experience, and of the young guys Soper-Lawler, Cameron, Sharpe and Momoisea stood out. Sharpe looks like a tough little lightweight plays wewll above his weight.

Bad luck for Luke Huth picking up a shoulder injured. Moga was strong and didn't use a knee brace and TRD sety up a great try with a Midley pass.

They have re done the stats from the game.
Chris Randall has most fantasy points with 70 - most tackles with 47 - 88 metres - 1 line break.

Brodie Jones looked firstgrade standard. He has always hit hard enough and run hard enough to look like he could play firstgrade, but his workrate was low. In this game he was doing strong runs and strong tackles all game.
He looks ready.
Moga was also strong, but looks like he needs a few runs to get match fit.

Moga looked enthusiastic, which was just as pleasing as some of his strong play

I thought it was a good team effort, Sharpe, Cooper and Soper-Lawler were good, centres not quite, Moga looked short of fitness, enthusiasm and effort, expected more, Robert-Davis except for a pass was ordinary, Hoy isn’t a first grade 5/8 yet needs a lot of work, Lino controlled the game well his kicking is first rate, King, Randall and Croker went well, especially Randall, Croker surprised me. Back three, Jones, Momoisea and Hosking were very strong.
Based on firsts win Lino and possibly Jones considered for firsts the rest had a pass mark or plus with a minus or two.

JOHN TOLEAFOA went OK in his first game.
Google tells me he is 20 years old and was rookie of the year in the real NRL last year.
20 minutes for 50 metres and 15 tackles is OK.

Was he in 17? If so, he was impressive... Hoy has a bit to work on before he's ready for NRL. He has a good show and go, but didn't offer too much else yesterday.

Not really the sort of weather for Hoy to show his running game, but he hasn't played 5/8 for a couple of years and will need to get back into it.

At least with Hoy we’re giving him time to develop into that role rather than throw him straight into the deep end like Browny would’ve.

We need to get that right with him because he has a bright future ahead.

1. Luke Sharpe,
2. Matt Cooper,
3. Tyronne Roberts-Davis,
4. Tautau Moga,
5. Matt Soper-Lawler,
6. Tex Hoy,
7. Mason Lino,
8. Josh King,
9. Chris Randall,
10. Mat Croker,
11. Jirah Momoisea,
12. Brodie Jones,
13. Zac Hosking.
INTERCHANGE: 14. Luke Huth, 15. Jack Cameron, 16. Lyndon Hills, 17. John Toleafoa, 18. Tevita Alifa.

Cut and paste side. They didn't even bother to replace Huth, who looked like his injury would keep him out for a long time.

I thought TRD was supposed to be fast? He got run down quick in his try assist. If that was say eddy Lee or ponga they'd have scored that themselves.

If it were me, I'd have the reserve grade and Jersey Flegg teams playing a trial game against each other every couple of weeks for the next 6 weeks to stay match fit.
It looks like they'll come back in May with a 10 to 14 game draw if things work out.
