Toohey's News

We all need to take into account that Obi will have what double the coach's that Brown did and he seems have been given a good budget as well as neither Furner or Peters would have come cheap. Brown seemed to be shopping the bargain bin for his offsiders for mine.

I'm told we can afford all the extra staff because Obi is taking minimum wage at first so he can have all the resources he needs to make a name for himself.

Just to comment on your 4, 5 and 6. I'm thinking that is how they will start, all things going well. This is based on a few comments from Obi so far. He has already stated that he would choose the better defender out of two otherwise equal players. A lot has been said about Shibasaki's defence against Latrell in the Broncos 15-10 win. Obi was impressed by that first hand. That means Hunt not getting a centre start, pushing him on to the right wing. In some ways that helps to give us the bigger body coming out of our end. Shouldn't be any concerns defensively either. Then Watson playing, and more importantly defending inside those two gives you another dependable tackler on that right side. It isn't a complete lack of threat with the ball either. Obi would take defensive dependability on the right knowing points will come elsewhere. I reckon you are on the money there.

Hunt being 6'3" and 104kg could be our beast on the wing ...

I get the feeling Hunt will be on the wing this year if Toa isn't picked.
Tuala and Shibasaki are more Centres IMO.
So it could be
4.Hunt 5.Toa
or
4.Shib/Tuala 5.Hunt

IMO Hunt has to be in the starting side round 1 after his performances this year.

I don't think what happened this year will have any bearing on what the new bloke does.

He might pull a Costanza, do the opposite of everything Brown did and win the comp.

Personally, I don't think last year's form or effort should have any bearing on selection for Rd 1, 2020. The fact that those players have contracts for 2020 is a fair reward IMO. We have new coaches and new players in the mix. Every player should be on notice that there is competition for each position and the best performers in training will be rewarded with a spot. I think Hunt is fantastic for us, but if any of Tuala/Shibasaki/Toa have absolute blinders of a pre-season, they should be right in the mix for a starting spot.

Toa will probably be OK after the christmas break, and even now he can do must of the fitness work with a broken finger.

Setting yourself up for failure with those comments.

Ofcourse everyone will be on their best behaviour when a new coach comes in. Wait till they slide back into a comfort zone if anything has changed.
