Round 19: Newcastle Knights vs Wests Tigers

Lefty

Danny 'Bedsy' Buderus
My team would be:

1 Ponga
2 Hunt
3 Moga
4 Hoy
5 Kenny-Dowall
6 Crossland
7 Pearce
8 D Saf
9 Watson
10 Klem
11 Brodie Jones
12 Guerra
13 Glasby
14 Woolford
15 Ese'ese
16 J Saf
17 Saulo

1. Ponga
2. Hoy
3. Hunt
4. Moga
5. SKD
6. Lino
7. Pearce
8. Klemmer
9. Watson
10. DSaf
11. Mata’utia
12. Barnett
13. Glasby

14. Levi
15. Ese’ese
16. JSaf
17. Guerra

Time to bite the bloody bullet and dump Ramien, Mann, Gavet and Buhrer to reserves and bring in Hoy to debut either on the wing or at centre, start Watson at hooker with Levi rotating and bring in JSaf and Guerra on the bench. If this team can’t beat the f***ing Tigers than we should fold. Worse comes to worse than give Jones/Saulo a shot.

The Roosters cruelly exposed our weaknesses, but no need to panic.
The only two sides to really have the firepower to put us to the sword so far have been Melbourne and Roosters when both have had strong rosters available.

We'll be fine against Wests.

Unchanged side for me. I think that's our best side till Fitz, Lee etc come back.

We were never going to beat a near full strength Roosters side, but the Wests game is a must win game, and a should win game for us.

Issue is some of the lower placed sides are starting to find a little form, at least enough to cause upsets or push sides for most of a match, it will be an early mad Monday if the knights dont get their act together next week, not to mention, really, what's the point of making the finals if you're merely there to make up the numbers?

I'd stick with the same 1-17, although perhaps JSaf in for Buhrer. When we had a run of 6 losses or so in a row earlier in the year, Brown stuck solid and we turned it around. No point making more drastic changes IMO.

Normally I'd come down hard on such a rant but our last 4 outings. Yep weld the axe.

I’d move Mann to Wing, he did so well there during the trial against Cronulla earlier this year so why not?
1. Ponga
2. Mann
3. Hunt
4. Moga
5. SKD
6. Lino
7. Pearce.
8. Klemmer
9. Watson
10. D.Saifiti
11. Matautia
12. Barnett
13. Glasby

14. Levi

Send this Brown. Coach needs to see this lol

Mann averages just over 10 tackles per game in his hundred games.
In the game against the Roosters the first time he made 36 tackles and missed 7. In the game against the Storm he made 28 and missed 4, and in the game this week he made 30 and missed 4.
In the Melbourne game in particular it was very obvious that all his former team mates were targeting him, because they would have known that big numbers in defence have never been part of his game.
even so, he has 85% tackle efficiency this year, and Lino has 82%.
Anyway, both Mann and Lino are massive targets in our defensive line, and the well coached sides know it.
Sides that take us on in the forwards aren't getting much joy, but those who attack us on the edges are going OK.

I know statistics are a good guide but more in it than that, Lino offers more in all round game which includes kicking not only for goal but in general play, offers alternative to Pearce allowing for variations in play, he just needs to play his own game when with Pearce.
Mann is only in side if injuries happen, Ramien is specialist centre, terrible against Roosters, were Mann is more a fill in type. Moga not great but should stay so Lino in Mann out.

Are just picking Sione because we know Brownie is never going to drop him or do people legitamately believe he is apart of the best 17 we can put out?
Of course he is. But he’s been our longest serving player so it’s easier to blame him rather than the shiny new players that are actually costing us games.

I'd be tempted to play Chris Randall at 5/8.
He averages about 40 tackles a game at 90% efficiency at least.

I don't mind that suggestion at all. As it stands, we can't beat a good team come finals time with our right side defence being able to be picked apart like it has been of late. Along with Melbourne and the Roosters, Blake Green picked it apart as well.

I'm guilty in the past of perhaps unfair criticism, but definitely not for his effort and willingness to throw himself into every tackle and hitup. Without the run of concussions I doubt his selection would be as controversial. I definitely don't see him playing more than 2 x 25 or 30 mins in the pack.

The biggest weakness for mine is him rushing up out of the line and leaving a hole, but he's not the only one. It's something that can be coached out of a player's game.

Fitz has earnt his starting spot and his form shows that, Barnett is more consistent and it'd be hard to leave him out.

Sione's biggest competitor for a spot right now is probably Guerra, I don't know whether Brown would leave either out.

On current form, I'd go with:

8 - Klemmer
9 - Levi
10 - Dan
11 - Fitz (Guerra while fitz is injured)
12 - Barnett
13 - Glasby

14 - Watson
15 - Sione
16 - Herman / Guerra
17 - Whichever prop has earnt it

But that leaves us with a really lightweight bench.
